Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Change Password

I am trying to set up where the current user can change their password. When I go to afterDialogValidate server side action and try to add Change_Web_Security_Password it throws an error that saids Web Security is not configured to allow change password. I have gone into websecurity to make sure what I think should be select to allow this but it isnt working. What do I need to select in Web Security to allow this?

    Try publishing your security files

Go to Web Security -> click on Publish Security Files --> Select your publishing profile, check configuration and Page Security Files, Select Publish Data Tables -- Publish Security Tables, uncheck Publish New or modified files only then click OK.

    Restart server

    Hope this helps,

    Maroine

        Re: Change Password

IIS will almost certainly make a difference as the tables are different. I think you have to migrate the traditional security tables to IIS tables when upgrading because of the differences. I think there are settings in IIS that dictate the permissions of the roles, etc. and not necessarily Alpha, however, I am not speaking from direct experience. Hopefully someone will be able to chime in with a response who has that experience.

          Re: Change Password

Password recovery is not supported on IIS. You can however, reset a password. Not sure if this is what you are looking for.

Take a look at the IIS migration document ... https://www.alphasoftware.com/docume...ion/index.html

You can change a users password with the context security object:
          Context.Security.ChangePassword(UserName as C, OldPassword as C, NewPassword as C)

          https://downloads.alphasoftware.com/...ChangePassword

The user can also change their password with the login component.

            Re: Change Password

Do most developers use the regular application server instead of IIS? Seems there is more that can be down with the application server so I might move to it. With this though, if I decide to stay with IIS, can I use the Context.Security.ChangePassword(UserName as C, OldPassword as C, NewPassword as C) and use something to retrieve what the user put into Old Password and New Password boxes so when they click the submit button it changes it. I guess Context.Security.ChangePassword(UserName as C, OldPassword as C, NewPassword as C) would go somehow in the submit button?

              Re: Change Password

All of the UX templates for security work on the standard server and IIS. The security settings are applied the same on both servers, except for password recovery. That is not possible on IIS, so a password can only be reset or changed.

You can write your own code using Context.security methods, or just use the UX templates.

The template code includes validation and other data checks. The template 'SecurityFramework-ChangePasswordCurrentUser' should be used to allow a current logged in user to change their password, while the template 'SecurityFramework-ChangePasswordAnyUser' can be used to change anyone's password.

                Re: Change Password

I was going to suggest that you could build your own UX to implement the context security method.
I have something similar for password reset which is useful for when the user cannot remember their old password.

But since there is already a template for changing the password, the work is already done :-)
I just tested this out and it works great, thanks Jerry.

Ok, thanks. What in Web Security do you have to select to allow this? In my Web Security under Data Recovery Options I have Lost Password Action Set to Reset Password and I have Allow User ID Recovery unchecked. When I go to save it saids Web Security is not configured to allow password change.

Do you mean you can't save your security settings or the Change Password template?
