Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    SVG Icons Not Rendering

I would like to see if anyone can duplicate this.....

I have attached a UX with some SVG icons in image and button controls.

In a browser logged onto the WAS, the icons do not render. The HTML is not there.

But they render just fine when using the development server. Here are some screen shots to illustrate.

    SVG_Shows.png SVG_NoShow.png

This started when I recently created a new UX. I have older UXs that use SVG icons, and those are not affected.

    I am running Pre-ReleaseBuild 4874-5043.

The WAS and the development server are on two different machines, both running Win 10 Pro v.1709 build 16299.192

Sounds like a pre-release bug. There was a new pre-release today. I would try it before reporting the bug to Alpha.

      Joe,

It is working for me in same pre-release build 4874-5043.

Here are some screenshots running in Live Preview, Firefox, and inside a TabbedUI on the WAS.

      Live Preview.jpg Firefox.jpg TabbedUI.jpg

      I'm also on a Windows 10 Pro x64 machine.

I have had a few issues myself related to SVG icons with some of the releases after the last official build and have reported a few of them. This build does seem to be working for me though.
I would try Mikes suggestion with todays release.

        Re: SVG Icons Not Rendering

Just tried it in Chrome and Internet Explorer as well.
Works okay in Chrome but IE is doing something funky with the scaling:

        Internet Explorer.jpg

That's not right! They're all supposed to be 24px

Selwyn was not able to duplicate it.

I just re-booted my server machine and now the icons are rendering when I log in from one machine but not from another. First time I've seen that.

I am sitting at my home computer - exact same Windows version....

Logged in on Chrome - icons are there
Logged on from IE - icons are there
Logged on from Firefox - no icons
Refreshed the UX in IE - no icons
Refreshed the UX in Chrome - icons are there

Using any of the browsers I can log into the development server an the icons are there every time.

            Re: SVG Icons Not Rendering

I updated everything to the latest Pre-Release Build 4882-504 and did some testing. I had one instance after re-booting the server where the icons rendered correctly. But the next time I opened the UX they did not render.

But there's more... I have a UX or 2 that were built a long time ago that have had SVGs in use all along. So I copied and pasted the HTML for 2 icons into TestSVGicon.a5wcmp and they work every time.

            Untitled.png

Other than the IDs - one is "my_truck" and one is "color-travel-and-transport_truck" there is no difference in the HTML code.

This would seem to indicate that it is an Alpha bug and not something in my particular setup.

But if nobody else can duplicate it....?

              Joe,

I decided to test your component at work where I am running under IIS Server rather than WAS.
Essentially I get the same result as I did at home.

              Working Preview - Works
              Live Preview - Works
              Firefox - Works
Internet Explorer - Not Working (scaling not honored)
              Chrome - Works

So, while my images are not 'missing' like yours, there is something wrong with IE's handling of them. I'm seeing this scaling issue with both IIS Server and WAS.
But ... running in Internet Explorer 11 from localhost on the Development application ... it renders correctly:

              LocalHost.png

I am in agreement with you, this is likely a bug. I have battled Selwyn over these SVG icon issues many times over the years.

Can somebody else please try Joe's component?

                Re: SVG Icons Not Rendering

I did experience the scaling issue exactly as you are seeing it, but only one time when I first added the one batch that is not scaling correctly. As I recall it was in working preview, and it has not re-occurred.

Just now I logged on to my web server from a different machine and the icons worked in Chrome but not in Edge.

I also think it is a bug. But without being able to pin it down it will be hard to fix.

                  Re: SVG Icons Not Rendering

Through experimenting with logging on from different machines and using various browsers, I chanced upon a pattern. I have been running this in a tabbed UI that has one UX set to auto launch on startup. Call it the "Startup" UX.

If I don't load the Startup UX on startup, the SVGs render. If I allow the Startup UX to completely load, the SVGs do not render.

Initial loading of UX's other than the Startup UX do not cause the problem.

Once the problem has been triggered, logging out and logging back in will reset whatever the cause is, and I can then reproduce the problem again.

If I launch the TestSVGicon UX before the Startup UX, the SVGs render and continue to render even after launching the Startup UX.

I will try to pin down what is going on with the Startup UX.

                    Re: SVG Icons Not Rendering

Attached is a test case that re-creates this problem.

I have found that when running UXs in a tabbed UI, if the first UX loaded has any svg icons in Local SVG definitions, it interferes with rendering svg icons in UXs that are subsequently loaded in the tabbed UI. If the first UX loaded has nothing in Local SVG definitions, there is no problem.

The attached components will demonstrate this in working preview. Just experiment with the order in which the two UXs are launched.

I would like to make sure this can be duplicated by someone - Stephen? - before I submit a bug report.
