Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Why can't I save to a list programatically? :(

    Hi,

    I am having an issue where I am changing the data associated to a list and it works, but it is not recognising it as dirty. It marks the line in the list with a light orange, which I understand that it thinks that a child list has a dirty row. The thing is the list is not a parent to another list. All I want it to change the data and save it to the database. The code I use to do the save is below. Can anyone help me please.

    Thank you
    Georgina

    Code:
    //Find if we have the data already in our basket
    	var listBasket = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST_BASKET_LINE');

    		//define optional settings
    		var ops = {};
    		ops.setFocusToTargetRow = true;

    		if (listBasket)
    		{

    			//Go get our primary key
    			var id = {dialog.object}.getValue('TB_WHID');
    			id = id+'|||'; //this is the field seperator for a composite primary key
    			id = id+ {dialog.object}.getValue('LIST::LIST_STOCK::st_code');

    			var data;
    			data = listBasket.getData(id);

    			//did we find our primary key?
    			if (data){

    				//Update the record
    				//alert('found primary key');
    				data.order_pots = {dialog.object}.getValue('TB_TOTAL_POTS');

    				listBasket.updateTableRow(id,data,ops);
                     }

    For debugging purposes, how about outputting somewhere and comparing what is in "data" (from the line: data = listBasket.getData(id);) before and after the update?
    Or if you persist the data to localstorage, just look at the list data in localstorage via something like the Chrome DevTools.

      There's a misleading bug in Alpha which points you toward a parent/child list problem... but it's not true.

      The problem is in your code... and in what you're trying to update.

      Your code is missing a closing brace.
      What you're trying to update is everything... include the key... and Alpha stuff... and you shouldn't be doing that. Only update what you want to update. Your code should be...

      Code:
      	var listBasket = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST_BASKET_LINE');

      	//define optional settings
      	var ops = {};
      	ops.setFocusToTargetRow = true;

      	if(listBasket){

      		//Go get our primary key
      		var id = {dialog.object}.getValue('TB_WHID');
      		id = id+'|||'; //this is the field seperator for a composite primary key
      		id = id+ {dialog.object}.getValue('LIST::LIST_STOCK::st_code');

      		var currData = listBasket.getData(id);

      		//did we find our primary key?
      		if (currData){

      			var updData = {};
      			//Update the record
      			//alert('found primary key');
      			updData.order_pots = {dialog.object}.getValue('TB_TOTAL_POTS');

      			listBasket.updateTableRow(id,updData,ops);

      		}
      	}

        Hi Jgrannis,

        I have tried this and the "data" is being updated. It is also being displayed in the grid. It just isn't recognising it as dirty and I don't understand why.

        Hi DavidK,

        Yes you are of course right I did post without the closing brace (I was sure I put it in), but my copy and pasting skills are obviously lacking here. The actual code does have the closing brace, so sadly that is not the issue. I am trying out your code amendment though.

        Yours hopefully
        Georgina

          DavidK you are a star. Thank you that worked brilliantly. Now I understand a bit more of what it is doing in the background.

          Yey
