Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Corrupt Global Scripts

I recently, over the last couple of weeks added over 100 new scripts, and the global scripts are now unstable.
A database compact helps, but there is still an issue.
I have tried the 2 suggestions under post "Huge .alm file" but still have the issue.
Any suggestions, anyone willing to have a look at the files.
    Thanks
    Terry

and the global scripts are now unstable.
What means unstable? Stop working, slow execution, unhandled exception? Desktop database is running in which environment, network, OS? These traffic gurus here need more information what's going on when it becomes unstable. To check your scripts, someone has to know, what he is looking for.

      Re: Corrupt Global Scripts

      Scripts are not always firing.
Scripts fire but sometimes show evidence of previous change i.e. runs an element of the script that has been removed
network based with users having runtime & shadow
      Is this enough info?

        Re: Corrupt Global Scripts

How do you update the shadows? Automatic refresh after new version number?

What's about the server? There are other issues on the network?
The clients are desktop computer or thin clients?

And please check the version of the developer / runtime installations - they should be same version number.

Some month ago we had similar problem. I resolved some errors within some scripts, but the users claimed these errors are still remain. The network administrator said, that may depends on a samba update on our Linux server. At this time we disabled the shadows on the thin clients. Not sure why, but until today it happend not again.

          Re: Corrupt Global Scripts

I advise users to refresh, but the issue is in development plus one person who has refreshed so I know the issue occurs in both.

No other issues on the network
Desktop computers, but as stated I am testing in development

version 12.4.4.1, build 4246 addins 4859 for full & runtime - has been like this for months

as the runtime / shadow users use a local version of scripts, would this suggest not network

If this helps I have been adding to fields on forms, on arrive events to fire global scripts - this has all been working fine until last week when the global scripts started to only fire intermittently you could even go back to a field & it would fire, even if it failed the first time, during the same enter of a record

Is this anything like your issue?

I have also now discovered that users have been getting permission to open table errors since last Wednesday, so perhaps this is a wider issue
                Any suggestions

The wording of the message doesn't sound like a built in Alpha message. Does the Why? button actually lead anywhere?

Have you tried poking around in AlphaSports to see if you can trigger the same warning? Run anti-virus scans?

Also this messageTable open mode not allowed.png
Which certainly looks like an Alpha message

Cannot open Alpha Sports for some reason - will not create muf

                      Re: Corrupt Global Scripts

That is an Alpha script error message triggered by the inability to open the table in RW Shared mode.

The same root cause is affecting AlphaSports. Cannot create muf is a directory permissions issue that Alpha cannot create the necessary multiuser file (muf).

Since you get a permissions error trying to open AlphaSports and you likely never turned on security in that database, your issue would seem to lie outside Alpha.

The desktop AlphaSports files are located in

                          \Samples\AlphaSports

                          under the Alpha program directory.

Apologies you misunderstood my point was that alphaSports is all on the local machine, on which I have full rights & permissions, so why would I not be able to open this?

Can you suggest where outside of Alpha I should be looking, if there were a permissions issue for the app data folder surely it would not allow access to the files everytime, whereas all very erratic

I have to admit I don't understand much about folder security and permissions nor the distinctions between users, authenticated users, administrators, etc.
