Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Corrupt Global Scripts

here is another message, stating it cannot write to a read only table, yet the table is not read only:-
    Write to read only.PNG
This sound more like an Alpha issue.

Is there someone from Alpha who can advise on this now?

      Re: Corrupt Global Scripts

That is an Alpha script error message but it doesn't mean it is an Alpha issue. The table could be read only for a number of reasons.

If you right click on most any file on your computer and choose Properties you can set the read only flag. An antivirus program might do that automatically as part of its processes.

This message is monitored by Alpha but it is not a place to ask Alpha for assistance. I believe there are contact details for customer service and technical assistance on their website.

        Re: Corrupt Global Scripts

Have not run into this issue here (yet). A thought. Files in program files may not work so well due to windows. MS has been trying to get users to not place apps in program files. Are your applications in the root of a drive? as c:\my app or under program files?. This includes shadows and others.
I never place runtime in program files. but rather on the drive root like c:\alphart\ using no sub folders and then placing the shadow in the main folder like c:\alpha\appname\
        I hope this helped.

The same setup has been there for 15Years plus
The runtime is installed in its default folder
The shadow has its own folder c:\MROffice\shadow

But I will have a look at Alpha Sports location & perhaps try to move & run

This is the same setup that has been there for 15 years that you recently updated to Win 10?

No update to win 10 yet but this is on the list

Moved AlphaSports to its own folder & has worked perfectly - still testing

Either a problem with my app or a network problem I guess

                Re: Corrupt Global Scripts

I recently, over the last couple of weeks added over 100 new scripts, and the global scripts are now unstable.
A database compact helps, but there is still an issue.
I have tried the 2 suggestions under post "Huge .alm file" but still have the issue.
Any suggestions, anyone willing to have a look at the files.
                Terry,

I assign version numbers to my applications. Whenever I make an update, I create a version numbered backup. This way I can go back and forth
between versions the same way you can go between builds with Alpha.

If the application worked prior to your adding new scripts, then the most logical thing to do is to go back to a previously working
version of your application. Test that version and see how it works.

If that version doesn't work, you now know it's not related to your recent changes.
Then apply the same logic to the network and hardware. Have there been any recent changes and if so, Undo them.

"If something that was working is broke, Undo what you last did."

If your using the built in backup Alpha provides for your forms, browses, reports, etc... you can do a restore to a prior version. Every time you make a change and save it, Alpha makes a copy. You can switch back and forth as many times a you want. The backups are date and time stamped which makes it easy to go back to a working version.

                And again, backup, backup backup.

                Good luck.

I get anywhere from 1-5 windows updates a month from ms win10. Some are small and quick, some take a while.

On the folder where you were having problems - open the folder, click security - are "full control" and all below it checked?
