Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Data Entry Form error

    Hi Al,
Both forms are a bit complex in their set linkage which prevents uploading the actual forms involved. However if you personally are interested in this app, I could share it on google drive. I know I could use some advice on a few things I am trying to do...

This database isn't compiled into an application, I just have Alpha Five V11 installed with a runtime license and they open the .adb stored on the network share. Does that answer your question?

          Re: Data Entry Form error

          Yes, I think it does.
From you description, I assumed you had Alpha running on the server and connected directly.
Having a RT is a different animal.
          Lots of defferences.
Do you have a shadowed installation, where the data is on the server and the forms are on a desktop?
          This is network optimisation.
Is this your design or someone else's?

More than happy to assist but you are going to have to trust one of us at some point with your level of knowledge

            Re: Data Entry Form error

I don't have a shadowed installation, both the form and table are located on the server. The original form was my design but currently I'm using Robin's form and table, but getting the same errors.

What would you like to know or have me upload, I've created Alpha Five data entry forms before and I've modified our job ticket/folder database that we use to keep jobs organized and I've never ran into these errors before.

                Re: Data Entry Form error

                Hi Lonnie,
We are not using the same terminology and so we are talking past each other. The database or workspace as Alpha now calls it, IS the application - the ADB file. The tables you create become a part of the database. Similar to how the forms you design become part of the tables. So it is the database - with all its tables - including the files that belong to the tables, that are located on your server; that is what we have asked to see.

From the control panel under the Tools menu you will find the option to zip the database where it will let you select which tables to include. Depending on how big that zip is, you can upload it here to the message board.

Not a good idea with the data security issues it may cause.

                    Thank you Robin.

I zipped the workspace and sent it to Ted, currently testing a form he created, yesterday was the first day that the form didn't have an error.

So now we have the form sorted, how about the network?
Did the refresh every 10 secs work or were there more issues?
