Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Problem with BACKUP

    Good morning,

I upgraded to the latest version of A5V11 and am having issues.

The latest one occurs when I call a BACKUP. I get the following message:

    --------------------------------------------------------

    Script:OnPush line:60
cmd = "dim tempP as p:
    tempP = browse.view(" +quote(toparent.name(1)+'@' +
    Property not found.

    --------------------------------------------------------

Anyone have any clues ? I have deleted and recreated the icon.

    Thanks,

    Lar

When you say latest version of V11.
    Please quote the build number.
I wasn't aware that there had been a V11 update for a couple of years.

      Re: Problem with BACKUP

Ted, Thanks for the response. The Message Board refers to it at A5V11. The patch download page refers to it as A5V12.
Either way, it is currently 5159-5132

      Thanks,

      Lar

The last patch for Alpha Five V11 was 3381-4096, I believe. You seem to have downloaded a patch/installer for Alpha Anywhere/Alpha Five V12. If you have not purchased a license for that you should have been prompted when you ran it.

You can always revert to an earlier state by rerunning the previous patch.
        There can be only one.

          Re: Problem with BACKUP

          Correct as always, Stan.
Lar, the last V11 patch was never actually released as a production version. I did it anyway, as Selwyn confirmed it was as good as it was going to get - effectively.
No problems with it after 2 years +.

As an aside, v9, 10.5, 11 and 12 desktop are very similar.
          9, 10.5 and 11 are virtually interchangeable.

Virtually interchangeable unless you want to edit an embedded browse...

              Robin,

I have embedded browses possibly written in V9 which I can't edit in V11. Would I be able to edit them in 10.5?

I am not sure about 10.5 but when I went from 9 to 11 I had to recreate any browses I wanted to modify.

I'll check that Jon. I have 9 on my machine.

                    Re: Problem with BACKUP

A straight V9 browse can be edited in V11.
An embedded V9 browse can be edited in V11.
A form with both embedded and saved browse can be edited in V11.

You must have a different version to me Jon.
Send me a browse and I will try it here. If it isn't a V9 (possibly V8), then it might be more on an issue but I can try.

                      Ted,

Took a deeper look and it appears the form was created in A5V4 or earlier. Have decided it's easier & quicker to recreate the affected browses from scratch.

                      Thanks for the offer

                        Here you go.
Look at the new Test Tab and see the tabs within tabs. Look at them all to make sure they have stuck.
                        OK on my DT.
If it isn't what you expected please bin it.
The browse is an embedded one and editable.

Wow, I didn't mean to attach that zip. Had given up trying to edit the browse when I realised it was created on such an old version of A5.

Ted, thanks for the effort, but I really can't find a wsay to modify the appearance of browses already present on the tabs. At the end of the day it's easier to rebuild each browse from scratch and set the appearance as I want as I go.

I was about to mention that the browse on tab 1 has everything restricted.
