Default Restore an an FPT file from backup

Running V8 on desktop on Windows 7 - Because of the server going down while I was compacting the database (I assume that is what caused the information to be gone) - the fpt files for a particular table are missing information. I believed I could just restore that fpt file from the backup and I would be OK. I renamed the fpt file on the server, copied the backup file to the database. I open A5 go to the table that was affected and when I try to look at the default browse, it opens, but if I try to go to the last record A5 freezes.

Is there more to just copying that file to the database -- I did reboot, re-index, etc after bringing the file over. Do I need to restore the whole table ?

I am at a loss as to why I am having so much trouble.

A5 works fine with the original file (that lost the data) -- I can do all I have always done - but I obviously want the original data back -- we are talking approx 12,000 records.

When I try to use the backup file is when I have trouble.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated

    Terri

Check the file size of the fpt file (explorer). If it is something approaching 2 gig then it is corrupted.
    There can be only one.

The file that is missing the information is 211,561 KB -- the file from the backup is 446,494 KB --

I even tried a file from a backup before the last backup - same issue

Just an update -- I have had corrupted fpt files in years past and I know when the file gets bloated, it is corrupted. This was not the case this time. As I was hunting through the database trying to figure out what to try next, I noticed a temp file (something like tablename.$$) in the current database. I figured I had nothing to lose so I renamed the file with the FPT extension - got the warning this could be 'dangerous' but I had nothing to lose. It worked! I had the data back except for one file. When I re-input the missing data, the file was back to normal.
