Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Don' know, but it might. If it's not running what do you got to lose?

Re: Alpha Developer not working because of clock issue?????????

The licence activation issue took down one of my IIS production servers 16 hours ago and the activation server time issue remains unresolved. Server is located in Australia, though this thread would indicate this is a global issue.

I have just temporarily reactivated the licence by setting the server clock back by 6 mins temporarily (many thanks to this post) set a long lease duration and I've blocked outbound internet connections to prevent the server attempting to renew the lease again until the matter has been resolved.

This is the 3rd time I have had a production server taken down by an Alpha licence activation issue. Client is understandably unimpressed.

Nothing at Alpha will change while the people who cause the problems are hailed for fixing them. Nothing will change until proper testing protocols are put in place within Alpha.

Re: Alpha Developer not working because of clock issue?????????

Activation issues with developer/server/runtime has been a permanent problem for a long long time now with Alpha. So Garys post(#8) : "The issue has been fixed as per Selwyn. Thanks Selwyn!!!!!! " is in my opinion a little too optimistic comment. But if fixing this issue just means restarting Alphas license server I agree with Gary.

Re: Alpha Developer not working because of clock issue?????????

This is a very critical issue for us.
We run 10 web servers and it is totally unacceptable and very very frustrating to be faced with this situation, without a warning or reason.
We have raised a top priority call with our server provider and it is embarrassing to go back and tell them that it’s not a network/ firewall restriction but a license registration issue.
In situations like this, I would suggest that Alpha software should at least email
All companies using their software to:
              - offer an explanation
              - provide a temporary solution
              - provide a permanent solution
When and how did Selwyn provide a comment on this critical issue?

If the 'solution' is to disconnect from the internet, strart alpha then reconnect how in blazes do you do this on a remote server? I also don't believe changing the system clock is a valid solution as with most of the system affected my side the clock is wqell within the 10 minutes suggested on the warning.

OK, I woke up to do some early work, and have also received the clock issue message, so it doesn't appear to be 'fixed'.

Re: Alpha Developer not working because of clock issue?????????

I just sent an email to Selwyn asking about the issue and got an instant response they must have at the ready. It is:
                    "Thanks for the email.

We are investigating this issue, but unfortunately still do not understand what the root cause is. We do know that our activation server is not down.

Here is a temporary work around that hopefully will get you up and running.

                    1. Exit the Alpha Anywhere development version, or Runtime Version
                    2. Temporarily disconnect your machine from the network (i.e. unplug network cables, disconnect any WiFi connections, etc.).
                    3. Restart the Alpha Anywhere. It should start up fine now.
                    4. You can now reconnect your machine to the network.

We apologize for this issue. We are working hard to try to resolve it."

I guess I'll try doing what it says now.

Peter thanks for the link to this thread I had created one yesterday. I'm going to contact my remote server guys on Monday and see if the above works.
What are you guys running for the lease duration? Once I was able to get mine running again I set it to the max.

Re: Alpha Developer not working because of clock issue?????????

The workaround Alpha sent did not work for me. After disconnecting from WiFi, and then opening Alpha and clicking on a project, I go whirly wheel, blue work area, and 'not responding'. Waited quite awhile and then it did respond, but when I clicked on a component, alpha went all dim again and 'not responding'. So I turned WiFi back on, and then ended up with the clock message thing again. SOOOO, I set my computer clock back 6 minutes as suggested, and now its working.

BTW I wonder if it has something to do with the build? I'm running an older version on my Alpha Anywhere and have not see the problem, however my IIS server is the current version and getting the error.

I am not using IIS and am on an older version of Alpha. Nov 2016 build 3962-4772

Only affected on local development machine. Alpha web servers are running ok on deployment server (thank goodness!)

Was just emailing with Selwyn and it should now be fixed. Their server was a using an internet time server that had stopped working.

Yes, I just got word from Selwyn that it was fixed. I tested with my clock set back to correct time, and it does appear to be fixed.
