Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha IIS with MariaDB on Ubuntu

    I have an issue using MariaDB on Ubuntu. When I publish to IIS, there are no errors, but when I login, my login process says it can not find session variables. If I simply switch the database to a Mac machine running MariaDB, everything works as it should. I literally unplug the network cable from one machine to the next and it works. Obviously, there is a configuration issue with Ubuntu, but I don't know what it might be. I have Navicat on the IIS server and can see the Ubuntu MariaDB so I know it is connecting properly. Also, if it could not connect to the database, Alpha would return a database connection error. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

    Hi Rob,

    Please share the error reported. It's usually a major clue.

      The error was an internal Error 500. In my processing page, I set several session variables and it errors on the first session variable:

      Internal Error 500
      Error processing page. Result was Error:Script:ErrorLog() line:19 Property not found session.userweb subelement not found.System.Exception: Error processing page. Result was Error:Script:ErrorLog() line:19
      Property not found
      session.userweb subelement not found.

      at A5IISManagedPlugin.A5WWorker.ExecuteRequestImpl()

      It seems as though it is having problems with the session. When I change the network to the Mac MariaDB, all works as it should.

            I want to set up a cluster on MariaDB but I can't do that on Mac, only Ubuntu. Works on Mac, not Ubuntu.

              Re: Alpha IIS with MariaDB on Ubuntu

              Let's work on one problem at a time.
              We need to look at the code for your processing page, specifically where you
              set the value for session.userweb.

              Once that problem is solved, you can narrow down other errors/problems.

                Re: Alpha IIS with MariaDB on Ubuntu

                I don't think there is anything wrong with the code. It is a simple result set from a query from the webuser table:

                session.userweb = rs.data("UserName")

                When running in live preview there are no errors. I would think if there was something wrong with the code, it would error when I am in Live Preview or connect to the Mac MariaDB but it works on these, just not the Ubuntu machine. When using the Ubuntu machine, if I open a webpage outside of the security system, it connects to the database and works as expected. Usually when there is a script error, the line quoted (in this case line:19) corresponds to the script that had the error. In this case, line 19 has nothing to do with the error.

                In the publishing profile, under Membership Provider Type, I have it set to MySQL as there is no MariaDB in the dropdown, only SqlServer, MySQL, Oracle and Custom. I have tried MySQL and Custom but no luck. I will try configuring the IIS manually to see if I can get it to work.

                  can you connect to the mariaDB from your production server ?
                  The easiest way to check is probably : ping <mariaDB ipAddress> 3306

                    Re: Alpha IIS with MariaDB on Ubuntu

                    I figured it out. When the login process makes the query to the webuser table, the table name was in all caps. In MySQL and MariaDB on Mac, table names are not case sensitive so everything worked as it always has, but in the Ubuntu version, table names ARE case sensitive and that is where it failed as it couldn't find the table. I just have to hunt down the other occurrences throughout the application to ensure that the tables names are the correct case.

                      Glad you got it figured out.
                      I'm surprised to see you say the mac (it is unix based) wasn't case sensitive.
