Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    UX Argument

    I have used arguments and filter for session variables and just filters in Grid components, but have not used them in UX components. Do not want user to logon to UX app,
    so am looking for a filter in properties or Server side to except a record with only a given value. Tired Argument in properties to prompt for value but it does not prompt.
    Obvious missing something. Any suggestions. Thanks

    Re: UX Argument

    Set the argument to "get value from variable"

    And then use a page variable or a session variable, depending on how you are passing in the variable.

      It is my understanding a session variable is set up in security. I don' want to require a logon. What and where is is a page variable set up?

        Re: UX Argument

        There seem to be two separate questions here.
        Session variables can be set up anywhere with Xbasic, and look like this:

        session.myVariable = "foobar"

        Page variables are set in the URL, for example https://www.alphawebapp/myAlphaPage....PageVar=foobar

        Depending how you save the record in the UX, you can use the dialogValidate on the server side events to evaluate the session variable, and then accept or reject the record before it is saved.
        The dialogValicate event has these properties:

        'Your code must set these properties
        dialogValidate.hasError = .f.
        dialogValidate.errorText = ""
        Use an IF ... END IF statement to programmatically set the hasError line to true or false depending on your situation.

        Hope this helps.

          Maybe we are missing what you are looking for.

          When you say "accept a record only with a given value", what are you trying to do exactly?

          Because you were talking about arguments, I assumed you meant that you were passing in a value. But are you talking about something the user types in? Like are you making up your own bot catcher?

            Re: UX Argument

            I have been working with Doron Farber, who only lives an hour north of me. He recommends logging onto the app, rather than loading it directly, as I do now.
            See www.swksystems.com/erac17app.a5w This way I can set up the session variable, which I have done many times in grid components. However, I have not done it with UX
            components. I know the session variable is set up in Arguments of properties, but do not see where the filter is set as it is in grid component, right after session variable is
            defined. My logon will load a TabbedUI to include erac17app, erac17ent, and erac17map. These represent South Jersey/Delaware Enterprise Rental locations. I also have 3 apps,
            erac24app, erac24ent, and erac24map for sample of North Jersey. My plan is to create one group of the above apps for the remaining 90 locations around he country.
            Send me your email to [email protected], and I will send you documentation on erac17app/map

              Re: UX Argument

              You create a session variable on the server side when the component is loaded. Then, you create an Argument that is bound to the Session variable. Then, in your list control, you set a custom sql filter to use the argument as a criteria for a particular row in the list. There is nothing that you have to do with security in this arrangement.
