Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

row duplication in a list on control

    Hi,

I have a mobile app which pulls down a list of jobs for the user each day. The list uses SQL to check which jobs are assigned to that user that day. The SQL uses several tables joined together and it always works when I execute it in the SQL Genie it works fine. However when I run it in the app, it sometimes duplicates the results in the list. Not always but sometimes. I cant figures out what causes it

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

    Thanks
    Paul

I saw something similar recently when applying client-side filtering to a List where the UX had also been set up to use data binding. The result was a very confused List with multiple entries per record.

I have seen this in a Phonegap app where the list is persisted locally. Row duplication sometimes happens when the app is started and the list data is restored from local storage. I have no fix for it at this time.

No one could say if it's a bug or not. You'd need to post a test UX and tables for someone to verify that it's not you doing something you shouldn't be.

The first thing is to make sure you are using the SyncLog table/structure. Also, you need to keep the results rather than discard. Go to the following link and scroll down to Miscellaneous.

              Hey thanks, thats really useful.

I've been getting users complaining that they are seeing old data in their list. Its designed to just show that days jobs. when I test it using their log-ins, it works fine. I'm assuming this is because of persisted data in the list.

Will using synclog solve that problem as well?

thanks again for the help :)

Re: row duplication in a list on control

The issue there, most likely, is how you are refreshing the list....or more likely that you aren't doing a refresh. Sync can be setup to send data to the server AND if desired it can also retrieve data from the server, but by default it doesn't necessarily do that. Each situationn is different so Alpha gives you the ability without predetermining what settings to use. Under detail view of a list, go to synchronization policy and check your settings there. You can also programmatically execute a refresh on the list regardless of those settings.

Re: row duplication in a list on control

I was also plagued by this issue but it appears to be history at this point. My app runs under Phonegap on Android and iOS and uses the file system in local storage and is designed to run in a disconnected environment. Once an item duplicated, it became a death spiral with other records duplicating as well every time a user logged in. As background, I present only unbound text boxes to users, perform fairly rigorous data checking on the values and then update lists programmatically, not with the generated buttons. I found that the slightest error in the update code, such as a typo on a field name, setting a list control with the wrong data type caused by unforeseen type changes moving data into and out of a list (subtle and a real PIA), and even interrupting the order of assigning values to a data object with code prior to updating or adding a row, caused duplication. The app is large and if I make a change to a list, periodically Alpha will inject catastrophic errors as well, such as renaming a list with a random textbox name and just dropping the list - my disclaimer that my observations, although painfully accurate, might be due to some twitchiness every time I recalculate the controls......
