Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Layout Table Reports

I am working with Layout Table Reports since I am using Mariadb. The layout table reports are really subreports. When I create them in alpha, I size the fields, format them and put horizontal lines under the heading and under the rows. When I convert the reports to layout table reports, the horizontal lines disappear. In the layout report, how would I be able to input the horizontal lines. I have tried creating a box around the detail section and setting the left, top and right side of the box to false in properties tab; however, there is a field beneath each selection that says Dynamic. When I try and change the fields to true for the bottom, and false for the right left and top side, the falses that I change revert to their original original format. How do I put horizontal lines between the rows in a layout report?

    Thank You.

    Re: Layout Table Reports

I just started working with reports, so someone with more experience may be able to chime in here, but one way I've accomplished this is adding a row in the report, merging all of the columns in the row, set the Fill Color to whatever color you want the line to be, the Fill Style to solid, and then the Row Height to 2pt. I'm sure there's a better way, but it did accomplish my goal for the meantime. Hope that helps!

      Re: Layout Table Reports

Thanks Cameron. Sometimes there are so many variables involved that is hard to determine what decisions to make to accomplish our goals. We struggle at times trying different things. Sometimes they and sometimes they don't. On the Layout reports, I tried building a quick subreport and converting it to a layout report. While I only had four fields in the report. When it converted, there were alot of additional columns and rows created. I tried forever to build boxes around the field; however the properties section on the left hand side of the page in design view was buggy and didn't work well. I finally discovered you can build a layout report from scratch. You have complete control over your columns and rows. To add horizontal lines, I found that you click on the field, go up to the objects menu and select Objects, then properties. The settings in this properties section is stable and will do everything you need to do.
