Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Pre-release List Page Navigation Bar

There's a really nice feature in today's pre-release... a List Page Navigation Bar.

But... I can't get it to work. Also, the dialog for the Navigation Bar seems to be different for me than in the video found for this feature in the pre-release notes. There is an extra property I'm seeing named "Style"... it's the first property.

I can't get the Navigation Bar to show either in the List Item Footer or in a div outside the List. The number of rows I specify for the List is ok... just no navigation.
I followed the video... but no results.

Could someone else try this feature?

Today's pre-release (5443) fixes the Page Navigation Bar. That extra dialog property "Style" is no longer showing. It's really nice.

I do wish Alpha would put some kind of testing regime in place. I'd be happy to wait a bit longer for releases if features and changes were tested before pre-release and release.

Pre release is for testing and it is up to you do you want to test. It is like an end of workday release. Work continues next day like your test reports here message board...

Re: Pre-release List Page Navigation Bar

The concept of testing and releases may be unfamiliar. When a feature is pre-released I believe the expectation is that it works more than zero percent... as was the case with the List Page Navigation Bar. That there may be issues with the feature is a given... even within an official release.

After a pre-release, or release, build, I feel that someone at Alpha should actually download that public build, install it, and test the newly released features to ensure they worked more than zero percent.
This would help ensure that whatever was missing between the development environment and the public build may be caught. It's so easy and takes little time to implement.

The pre release concept is liitle different in practise. We must remember that pre release may also include important fixes for old features. And you get these fixes basically next day normally. When I read the upper part of Alphas Pre release page I wonder how anybody expect that new features are error free. Alphas advice is to test put not use new features (yet).

But I admit that Alpha should carefully test that new features do not break old features in pre release build (or they have to inform ).

              Hello David!

We're unable to reproduce the issue you described in your first post in the current release.

In the future, it would be very helpful if you reported these issues directly to [email protected] instead of posting them here. We only check the forums periodically, which means we may miss seeing your issues you've encountered in our nightly builds. We very much want to make sure we address any issues before posting an official release.

If anyone is interested in learning more about configuring the new List Navigation Bar, check out the documentation!

Re: Pre-release List Page Navigation Bar

                Sarah,

You were not able to reproduce the issue as it was corrected in build 5443, as I reported in post #2.
I did not want to send a bug report before I'd confirmed it wasn't something at issue in my installation.

You should address your testing methodology to ensure the features intended for your nightly builds actually make it into the nightly builds.

So much work goes into the documentation, screen shots, videos of an excellent feature like Page Navigation that I would think you'd want to ensure the feature is actually included in the build it's supposed to be in.

I'd suggest moving the release of a build to mid-day. That will give you time to download and run a test of the nightly build the morning after the build for specific features and fixes included in that build.

It's a fairly simple workflow and one that may catch a number of issues created by Alpha. Why wouldn't you want to first test something that you're all proud of releasing?
