Starting group line numbers at 1 in a list control

How do you get the line numbers to start over at 1 with each new group break in a list control? <LogicalRowNumber> just keeps incrementing throughout the whole list.

It should be easy but I can't find it anywhere.

I can't see a nice way of getting at the Group Value... and when it changes... while the List Items are being rendered. Alpha processes all Groups first... and then draws the List. So, we have to test the group change ourselves.

You've not detailed which version/build of Alpha you're using... so this applies to the last official release... 5447.

In your UX onRenderComplete event add this...

{dialog.Object}.__listLine = 0;
{dialog.Object}.__listGroup = "";

This sets up a couple of dialog namespace variables to work with.

I'm guessing you're using a Freeform, Vertical layout... although you've not said.

Add something like this to your Layout...

	<div style="display: table-cell; width: 40px; text-align: left; vertical-align: middle;">
		<div id="ln_{<ZeroBasedRowNumber>}" class="[theme:listBox.base.item.parts.mainClassName|{dialog.style}ListItemLabelMain]"></div>		
	</div>

This adds a <div> to your Layout with a unique Id of "ln_z" where z = the current zero-based row number. Now we can get at each row.

In the List Control event... onItemDraw...

	{dialog.Object}.__listLine = 0;
	{dialog.Object}.__listGroup = data.CustomerID;
}
{dialog.Object}.__listLine = {dialog.Object}.__listLine + 1;
var lineNbr = "ln_" + index;
$(lineNbr).innerHTML = {dialog.Object}.__listLine;

Every time the List draws an Item... we test the line data Group value (I have a Group break set up for CustomerID) against the dialog namespace variable.

If the values are not the same we reset the item line number back to zero, and set the __listGroup variable to the current Group value.
Add 1 to the line number count.
Set up the <div> id.
Set the innerHTML for that <div> id to the __listLine value.

Then you get this...

I also got it to work in the alternate columnar layout by putting <span id="ln_{<ZeroBasedRowNumber>}"></span> in an empty field template.

Seems like this would be a common requirement and should just be another field available along with <LogicalRowNumber> and <ZeroBasedRowNumber>, maybe <GroupRowNumber>?

I am using Alpha Five v12.3, Build 2999.
