Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    New property sheet behaviour

    Ver 12.4.5.4.7 Build 5487

Alpha provides so many properties for components which is fantastic. I'm curious though, does anyone else find it troublesome that in the property sheet for a component when you click anywhere to the right of a checkbox the checkbox is toggled? I find myself clicking on the property line to get a description of it (the help at the bottom is great) but I don't necessarily want to toggle the checkbox, which means I then have to change the property back to its previous value. It's very easy to not notice the checkbox value changed and suddenly your component starts doing things you didn't expect.

Also, clicking on the line of a property with dropdown values now automatically displays the dropdown selections. From memory, a few versions back you could click on the line of the property once to see the help or double click to iterate through the options.

I've also noticed that often when you copy a property value from one control to another using ctl+c and ctl+v the pasted value will revert to the prior value as soon as you take the focus to another property.

I think these changes came with the recent releases???

Just my 2 cents worth for the day.

It was introduced some time after 5221. You can turn it off if you don't like it.

I saw the same behaviour. You now have to be very careful about where you click to get property information. It's a hard habit to break so I'm constantly undoing property settings.

There are some glitches still to work out in the new property grid .. it does strange things sometimes.
While you can turn it off, I don't believe that command persists and you have to re-run it each time you open the developer.

I haven't because (making an assumption here) I don't think it'll be seen as a bug. You can click the property label (to the left on the property checkbox) and bring up the description. Clicking the label, instead of to the right of the checkbox, won't result in that undesirable behavior.

I save my bug reports for larger issues.

Actually, I have another bug. Sometimes I can't select the property. Sometimes clicking on Notepad or something else, then going back to the UX allows you to get focus on the property. Sometimes you have to close the UX first.

Another bug is when you make a change to a property... that change will then disappear. You have to get out of the property and wait a split second to make sure what you entered did not disappear.
It's tough to report something like this because it's so random. However, I did see it in an Alpha webinar the other day. I'm waiting for the webinar to come out so I can find it.

Good to know it's not just me, hopefully it will improve with future releases. I'll retrain my brain to click to the left of the property for now.

I will avoid going back to the codejock activex as I regularly suffered from the memory leak issue which can lead to losing unsaved work when Alpha goes into meltdown.

                    Re: New property sheet behaviour

Have to agree. I hadn't thought much about it, but Alpha has not crashed since the new property grid went in. And it crashed regularly. I think at this point, however, it's a trade-off and hope it gets better. Constantly setting properties I don't want to set and having property settings just disappear is extremely annoying. The new property grid is also a bit tougher to view... but I can get used to that over how buggy it is.

Also, what about the grid lines in the property sheet? I don't see them with the new control. The main property sheet for a Grid or UX that takes the width of the window has to have grid lines to make it readable since the label and property values are so far apart.

I am getting flickering when setting the responsive layout properties, and yes sometimes the style settings per object do not "stay" if you just paste in a property but if you open it and paste it into the code section it stays. I have been just dealing with it, I figure they will get it right - they always seem to come through with fixes, and of course some new awesome features.

Here's a good example of Alpha settings disappearing. It's impossible to replicate therefore impossible to report. But it sure is there in an Alpha Q&A session at around 53:50...

I get that a lot when pasting in style settings on a control, sometimes as I kind of said before, you have to open the style settings edit in there and then save because it will revert back to whatever was there prior if you just paste it in. It's a bit annoying and you have to watch for it BUT knowing this can happen just makes me more aware as I work and create.

                              Hello Mike,

We very much want to hear from you on any behaviors in the new prop grid that are unexpected, including this one. There should be no difference between the new property grid and the old one (Unless it is an improvement, of course!)

                              ALL

If any property is not saving it's value, if something doesn't behave quite like you expect, or something has been lost, please email [email protected] with a description of the issue and how to reproduce it so we can fix it! We want to hear about any issue you've been having with the new prop grid.
