Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    "Text editor error"

I am working on a report that I have used for a long time.
    It is a price list.
I am proof reading to check for errors in the data, like wrong price, miss-spelling etc...
It is based off of a 1:M set.
I have a group break in this report and it is 2 column.
Next I convert it to a pdf.
this is what I normally do with this report.
today when I clicked on the convert to pdf, I do this in the print preview screen, it locked up or restarted my computer, I control this computer with remote desktop from my shop to my office, so When I went in the office the computer had the blue screen.
I have restarted and now in A5 when I try to run a preview of a report I get this "Text editor error" or A5 hangs and I have to shut off A5 by clicking the X in the top right corner. It will close from there.
I have 6 reports I have been working with, 3 of them work and 3 don't. I only need 2 reports, Retail and Wholesale. the extra reports are for this very reason, when something screws up. So, is there a temp file I can delete or do I need to start over?
    Thanks,
    David

What program are you using to print PDF's? You may need to install or update Adobe Reader if you have it. On Win 10, the last update switched my default app to MS.

      I use PDF-XChange Viewer.
I have tried it on another computer and it does the same thing.
I have several other reports based off of this set and other sets that work fine with the pdf writer.
I print pdf's a lot with this method.

I still think Alpha may be looking for Adobe as your default PDF app and if you don't have it, it will err.

It works fine on all of the other reports and always did through this problem. I redid my reports and they work fine. I have no issues now. Thanks,

So what went wrong with the reports?

                  Re: "Text editor error"

I don't know. I thought it was some temp file hanging around causing the problem but I don't know. then I suspected it had something to do with a report with 2 group breaks, 2 columns, or I was putting lines inbetween the columns and thought they might be in the wrong spot like too close the the edge, again I was just guessing. so when I redid the reports I would do 1 step/modification then try to see if it would work a print to a pdf and it worked fine through every step.
