Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Setting a watch event

    Is there a way to set a watch event on a control in a UX? The closest I can come is the onChange event however a refresh of the controls trigger this event even if the control has no value.

    for example:
    if Textbox1 > 1
    then
    {dialog.object}.submit();

    Search for "UX Component - Define Custom Watch Events" in http://aadocuments.s3.amazonaws.com/...easeNotes.Html

    I couldn't find any other doc on this. Looks like the online documentation has been abandoned. I tried to find some information about a videoplayer control and found multiple 'under construction' pages dating back over a year.

      Thanks Dave,
      Could I do something like this in the onChange event? Tried this but didn't work.

      var control = {Dialog.object}.getControl('Textbox')

      if (control > '1') {{dialog.object}.submit();}

        Re: Setting a watch event

        I'll assume you want to run onChange code in the 'Textbox' control.

        You're using .getControl which gives you a pointer to the control object... not the value of that control. Instead, you'd normally use the .getValue() method.

        However, if you're running code in the onChange event of 'Textbox' and you want the value of 'Textbox' then you can reference that value with this.value. For example...

        Code:
        var ctrlValue = parseInt(this.value);
        if(ctrlValue > 1){
        	{dialog.object}.submit();
        }
        To ensure you're testing against a number, use parseInt to convert the incoming "string number" to an integer. If you're dealing with decimals, use parseFloat().

            Re: Setting a watch event

            One limitation of the onChange event seems to be that if the field changes programmatic ly the event is not triggered. So say the field is populated using a javascript function
            say {dialog.Object}.setValue('Textbox','2'); When this function is run and the control is set (changed) the event is not triggered. Also tried to trigger the event by making textbox a calculated field and changing the associated field that changes the value of textbox. This does not trigger the event. The only way I've found to trigger the event is for the user to change the value and then leave the textbox field. Can not find a work around to this limitation. Any ideas?

              Re: Setting a watch event

              I don't know what build of Alpha you're using, but I'm not seeing what you're reporting in the latest official release and pre-release.

              onChange of a Textbox Control fires if...

              A .setValue() is performed against that control
              A value is entered into the control which is different from it's prior value
              The control is a Calculated Field Expression and the control value changes (if that change is not a direct input)

              onChange of a Textbox Control will not fire if...

              You enter a value directly into the control... and that value is equal to that control's prior value

              In a sense, .setValue() and Calculated Field Expression are not as smart as direct input. Direct input knows if the value has actually changed... and therefore selectively fires. .setValue and Calculated Field Expression only know that a change occurred... and always fire.

              If you're getting different results... and you're using a current build... you should post a sample UX showing the behaviour.

                Thanks. That helps clarify things. May be mistaken on this. Did get it to work. Think I have a timing problem.

                  Don't know what you want to do but have you looked at the onTimer event?
                  I use the onTimer event to "click" a button that the executes an ajax callback for an InternalXbasicFunction. This is where the "watching" is done, i.e. you run code to detect if what you are interested in has changed and then do stuff as required.
                  It means I can also manually click the button to execute on demand.
