Have you purchased a license, Ted?
No, Peter I haven't.
Having tried it I was very impressed but as you may know, I use a different web and mobile product.
If I could see an easy way to use AT to front end a SQLServer16 Db, I would think again.
Uploading photographic evidence is my goal at present.

I don't know, Ted. I'm thinking $40,000.00 is not too bad for Developer and IIS. And $40,000.00 is not too bad for a renewal. But I'm drawing the line at HALF A MILLION BUCKS for Transform Unlimited. Given my budget. You know what I mean?

You don't think that the marketing department screwed this up just a little do you?

Im assuming that is some weird screw up on the website. Alpha Anywhere cannot surely be that expensive, especially when most services these days are moving to a monthly subscription model to remove the barrier to entry that a 40K lump sum would be.
Or am I missing something?
We also havent bought transform yet, or tried it out. But I cannot really see a use case for it as we dont often fill out a form that we dont need to edit again.
The real price for a 3 user pack is $35/month Jonathan.
As far as using it, although I don't use that product, the focus on forms seems a bit limiting to me be but it's their marketing department and they sometimes get it wrong I suspect.
If this was my product, I would have made it adaptable to front end any major Db type. I think that the Phonegap side prevents that but I could be wrong.
As an example, I would use it to capture and upload evidential images. It does a lot more than just forms.
Working within the Native Shell of a phone or tablet is a bit of a "black art", so this no-code solution takes a lot of the pain away.
Suggest you devote 1 hour on the trial app, you may see other opportunities to use it in anger. It is really easy to set up.
Not selling it you understand as I have my own different toolkit already paid for.

There are all kinds of things AlphaSoftware is doing with Transform.
I believe you can still get a one year "sandbox" license so you can kick the tires.
I believe Transform can be used as a quick, robust front-end, complete with functions,
methods, and APIs.
I'm sure if you send an email to guides@alphasoftware.com they will either get you
a license, or in the alternative, let you know where to send the email to get a license.
Last but not least, they do have the TransForm Tuesday webinars each week.

The $500,000 price is for a special purpose unlimited SKU.
The price starts at $35/month for 3 users for commercial use and goes down with volume.
There is a reseller program, which further reduces this price.
Testing, development and personal use is free with a sandbox license.

The pricing page makes it sound like it is 35/user per month. Does anyone else read that like I do?

How do you obtain a sandbox license?
Does this mean 35 / month that covers 3 users.
I am a one man band.
Still a bit out of my reach though.

Hi Guys
In my part of the world the pricing (Rand / Dollar Exchange) puts it totally out of my reach.
Shopped around and found something not so pricy and no subscription.
They do suggest the annual upgrade which covers support and any updates in between.
What this product does is the total reverse.
It generates an app from an existing SQL database that is fully customizable and can be opened in other tools for further development. It can also output your app in release mode (requires Android Studio) as .apk file for publishing to Google Play. You can also open the generated project in Xcode which requires a Mac computer (Which is good news to me as I am still doing my other Alpha projects in a virtual Windows machine) to output .ipa file for publishing to Apple App Store. It can save you tons of time and is suitable for both beginners and experienced developers alike.

It definitely has its place in the market. Pricing is only one factor in figuring out if it is the right product for you or the business you develop for. Every use case will be different but if you or your client has a need for multiple different forms and integration with back end systems then the combo of Alpha Transform with Alpha Anywhere definitely needs to be considered.
For some features AA and Transform seems to rely on each other.
Here is blog post and here related video.
Introduced features are great and all is made easy by Alpha as ups-Dave shows in video:) So no doubt that AA makes some added value to Transform.
As always this kind of integration has good parts and bad parts as users/developers point of view.
Ken
I would not say that AA and Transform rely on each other. Transform can operate independently and connect to a back end of choice. Having said that Alpha have made it very easy to use Alpha Anywhere with Transform by creating a bunch of functionality to take advantage of the api capability of Transform. Even more pleasing is that there is a steady flow of yet more features in Alpha Anywhere to leverage the usage of Transform even more.
For me as an independent developer and multiple clients. AA is a major part of my overall "toolbox" and Transform now has a place in said toolbox as well!
Glen
If Alpha has any business sense they will make them relay on each other is certain features. This is true for both products. If you feel that Alpha Anywhere has features to leverage the usage of Transform then Alpha has succeed. Now they have to make Transform users to desperately need AA.
Ken
I posted a reply a few days back, but it hasn't stuck.
@Glen. Glad you adopted AT.
@Ken. Imho, AT could front end lots of data in web apps not necessarily AA based. There are a lot more people NOT using AA, than using it worldwide, so it is a huge market. I would see it as a separate product, not a tied one.

Transform is basically an intranet solution.
Because Transform and AA can share same data AA can extend with a little extra cost it usage for example to (public) web or to mobile applications and to desktop applications. So you actually can save money from the integration.
Intranet? Really?
I look at it as a really swish mobile product, not an Intranet one.
My mobile apps are truly mobile and link to SQLSERVER.
No API required, but then as you know I am an Alpha DT person but not an Alpha Web person.

And anyone can use your application. No license needed?
Great!
The apps are multi tennant so pretty well locked down, Ken.
You don't need a licencecto view, but you do need authorised access.
The toolkit I use is bought and paid for.
The servers I use are USA and Europe. $100 per year for unlimited everything, and latest version of MS SQL, so I don't bother with MySql for them.
I use MariaDb occasionally, but mainly MS SQL.

Ok Ted,
I think we are maybe talking both about different products but it does not matter:).
What comes to databases I have now moved to Azure SQL Database. I did get the idea from Filemakers Cloud solution. Azure SQL has also native json support which helps in server side.
I am still with Leaseweb VPS server. With Alpha you have to stick with 4 cpu which is a problem today. For example Hetzner which I am considering in EU because Hetzner has it own sea cables has just two server line with 4 cpu. One has not ECC memory and other has but is basically a slow file server.
Ken
Cool!
Hope Brexit doesn't change things!
