Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Query a set

    I am trying to create a form which acts like a dashboard, with the month-to-date, year-to-date and totals from a parent table (tblpatients) and 3 child tables which are linked to each other (tblpatients linked to tblcases linked to tblicda linked to tblcpt). I tried a summary table, but I can't include three different tables on a report or form.

    I wrote this code, based on code in found under the query_create page in the wiki.

    dim tbl as p
    dim curmonth as c = s_quote(month(now()))
    dim curyear as n = year(now())

    dim varMTDCases as n
    dim varMTDPts as n
    dim varMTDwRVU as n
    dim varMTDMCPay as n

    dim varTotCases as N
    dim varTotPts as N
    dim varTotWRVU as N
    dim varTotMCPay as n

    dim varcurptid as n

    dim setptr as p = set.open_session("setpatients")
    dim demptr as p
    dim caseptr as p
    dim icdptr as p
    dim cptptr as p
    dim filter as c
    dim qry as p

    demptr = setptr.tbldemographics
    caseptr = setptr.tblcases
    icdptr = setptr.tblicda
    cptptr = setptr.tblcpt

    filter = "Month(DOS) = " + curmonth + ".AND. Year(DOS) = " + curyear
    query.filter = "flattenquery (" + filter + ")"
    qry = demptr.query_create()

    setptr.fetch_first()
    varTotPts = 0
    while .not. setptr.fetch_eof()
    varTotPts = vartotpts + 1
    end while

    varMTDCases = tablecount("tblcases", "Month(DOS) = " + curmonth + ".AND. Year(DOS) = " + curyear)

    I get an error message telling me that
    qry = demptr.query_create() No such field

    As best I can tell, I set up the set pointer and table pointers correctly, but ....

    Thank you for any help you can provide.

    Re: Query a set

    What table does the DOS field belong to?

    From the help:

    Flattenquery(donations->amount >= 3000)

      Re: Query a set

      My tables include
      tbldemographics
      PtID (autonumber, key)
      last name
      first name ….

      tblcases
      PtID (foreign key)
      DOS (date of surgery)
      CaseID (autonumber, key)

      tblICDA
      CaseID (foreign key)
      DxID (autonumber, key)
      ICDA
      ….

      tblCPT
      DxID (foreign key)
      CPT code

      I want to eventually generate month-to-date, year-to-date, totals for one field in each table. The only one which has a date field is the tblcases table. I have a set which links the above tables.

      thank you

        Re: Query a set

        In that case your filter needs to include the table name as the help example showed.

        filter = "month(tblcases->DOS) = " + curmonth + ".AND. Year(tblcases->DOS) = " + curyear

        Just a tip if you are not too far along in your development, it is a bit redundant to prefix your table names with 'tbl' and if you can keep them to 8 chars even better.

        Also if DOS is a date type field then using date() instead of now() might be better since you don't need the time portion of the now() string. But either one will return the month & year values as numeric so change curmonth to type N, else you would need to wrap the first parameter with s_quote() to match the curmonth variable.

          Thank you! That works, but the query apparently returns 0 records (it should have returned 14), Even when I change the filter to "", i get no records.

          BTW, thank you for the input on the programming tips!

            Re: Query a set

            Date fields are tricky for using in filters anyway. You might try filtering by YEAR first then by MONTH which seems to be the default way that AA looks at dates. Also a query.filter = ".t." will return all records. Other than that, without an actual sample of your data; you might just want to do a search here on 'flattenquery' because anything else would just be a guess on my part.

              Thank you, Robin. I really appreciate the time you have taken. I left my file at the office, so will have to try it tomorrow.

              Best regards,
