Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Script Error when saving or browsing a Web Dialog component

Alpha Anywhere gives the following error message when saving or browsing a web dialog component

    Script:a5wcb_enforce_security_DLG() line:28
    Variable "request" not found.

Tried disabling web security in the web projects control panel but still getting this error.

Any help will be much appreciated.

You should post the Alpha version/build you're working with.

Apologies David for the delay in replying.

The version 12.4.1 Build 3633 is the version I am using and having problems saving or browsing dialog components.

The same web application has no problems on version 12.3 build 2446.

      Kind regards

      Raj

That is like 2,000 compilations (builds) behind where we are now.

Raj, 2446 is from October 2014 and 3633 is from almost 2 years later at May 2016. Alpha, in general, is a minefield of bugs, untested code, and breaking changes from release to release. I would have been far more surprised to find that any of your components worked.

The first thing I would do is recalculate all your controls. I'm not sure if 3633 has this feature, but, open a UX component and click on Menu (next to the Mobile checkbox), and choose Recalculate all controls, and then save, and then see if your UX will run in LivePreview.

Another option is found in the Web Control Panel menu... Edit, Bulk Operations, Update UX Components.

Another option you could try... open the UX for editing, get into Properties, and at the bottom look for the property "Save component format". If it's there, change it to "Formatted JSON". Save, and try running your component.

Another option would be to try an Alpha build closer to 2446... e.g. the next one... 2614 December 2014. If that works, keep trying smaller increments of builds.

The error you're getting suggests that a change was made to the way Security variables are handled within the 2 years between the releases you're using. Something else you could try is creating a new simple UX... without security... and see if that runs. Then add security to that new UX... and see is that runs.

Thanks David. I will try your suggestions.

The web application in question was developed in v10. I am trying to port it across to V12. It appears that more components work in 2446 than in 3633. More over my worry is whether it may require a complete rewrite with the latest build of V12.

            Regards
