Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Format logical "label" in UX list's detail.

    I have a UX list with a read-only detail section ( read-only is marked in the table definition of the list properties). I'm trying to format a logical field defined as a "Label" as Yes or No. Nothing I've tried works, neither xbasic or JS.

    This JS doesn't work (depending upon where I put it):

    if (this._value == true) {
    return 'Yes';
    }
    else {
    return 'No';
    }

    or

    if (value == true) {
    return 'Yes';
    }
    else {
    return 'No';
    }

    Neither does xbasic:

    iif(convert_type(<value>,"L"),"Yes","No")

    or

    iif(<value>,"L","Yes","No")

    or a bunch of other attempts.

    What's the secret?

    Using current build.

    Not sure what your SQL field is, or what SQL you're using, but this works for MySQL...

    Code:
    SELECT CUSTOMER_ID, FIRSTNAME, LASTNAME, COMPANY, IF( SHIP_SAME = 1 , 'Yes', 'No') AS SHIPVALUE FROM tblcustomers
    MySQL SHIP_SAME is defined as a Bit field with a value of 1 or 0.

    Alpha is quite flakey when trying to do this on the client side. The actual value changes. When looking at code running in this section, if your field value is showing as true or false in the List, then this._value is actually "T" or "F". Makes perfect sense.

      In this case it's SQL Server. Ok thanks David. That just figures. Glad to know that I wasn't losing my mind.

        Another option might be to work with the templating.
        In the List Layout, for the logical field, in the "Template" property, try (In my case my field is called ProhibitOrdering):

        Code:
        {*if <defined<ProhibitOrdering>> && ProhibitOrdering == "T" || ProhibitOrdering == true || ProhibitOrdering == 1}
            "Yes"
        {*else}
            "No"
        {*endif}
        I put the different options for true because I've seen it work for new rows but then after syncing with the server or after the list gets restored from localstorage (I don't remember the exact cases), the data 'T' comes back as true or 1.

          You can use IIF for SQL Server, as of 2012.

            Thanks Jeff, this is in the detail section and it's read-only - this time.

              If you just want to do this Client-Side... here is how to get the List, Fields, "onDetailView Populate Javascript" to work. The problem is with the Detail View field... with it being set to Logical. When set to Logical, "onDetailView Populate Javascript" doesn't work... and really can't work... because it's a logical value... not text.

              Change the Detail View field Type to Character... and then this code will work in "onDetailView Populate Javascript" for the field...

              Code:
              if (this._value == 'T') {
              return 'Yes';
              }else{
              return 'No';
              }
