Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to get the current user name in an a5w page?

    I tried using the code below to get the current user name in an a5w page but its not displaying the userName or the userName is blank
    dim userName as C = Context.Security.CurrentUser
    ? userName

    I also tried to access a session variable on the a5w page but its not displaying anything.
    Is there a way to do this?

    Thanks!

    The code you've posted works if you are logged in. Try this code...

    Code:
    dim result as l
    result = Context.Security.Login("[email protected]","xxxxxxxx")
    ?result

    dim userName as c
    userName = Context.Security.CurrentUser

    ?userName

      Thanks David. I forgot to mention that the code is called by a webhook. since I was logged in I expected that the username is returned too , your code requires for the current user name , which does not work because it is what I am trying to get

        Not sure I understand what you're saying... but... stuff doesn't work that way. If you are logged in... and expect an outside source to run an a5w page and have your security username available... then that means that anyone, anything, running that a5w page will have access to your username. Running that a5w page opens a new session and therefore has no idea about anyone else logged in.

        What you need to do is pass your userid or username to the service that responds with the webhook. You configure the webhook to include your username in its data and then you extract the username in the a5w page.

          "What you need to do is pass your userid or username to the service that responds with the webhook. " I think this is the one that I am trying to do. May I request if you can show how to do this?

            This is entirely dependent on the web service being called. In all the webhooks I've implemented, no 2 have been the same. Close... but each web service is different in some way for sending data to it and get data out. The web service you're using should have some kind of doc for including data in a call... and passing that data to a webhook.

              Thanks David. For this code . How then should I supply the parameter [email protected] and the password? It should be provided at runtime not hardcoded
              dim result as l
              result = Context.Security.Login("[email protected]","xxxxxxxx")
              ?result

                When you call your web service you would include your username in the data sent to that web service.

                When your web service fires the webhook, the webhook can include that username with the data delivered to your a5w page.

                  Thanks David. For example in creating a customer in Stripe there is an Alpha Anywhere Genie to do this, how will I "include your username in the data sent to that web service."?

                    Re: How to get the current user name in an a5w page?

                    It took 9 posts to get there, but now there's some information in this thread. Your original post might have been... I'm using the Stripe XBasic Genie to create a Customer and I've also configured a WebHook to fire when the Customer is created. How do I pass the current logged in user into the Customer Create call and get it sent back in the Webhook call.

                    It's difficult to know what you can do with the code in the Stripe Xbasic Genie because nothing is documented. You could try sending the current username in the custom_fields property of the create customer arguments. You'll need to review the custom_fields section of the Stripe Create Customer doc here... https://stripe.com/docs/api/customers/create

                    It's possible that if you can add custom_fields then the webhook data will include that custom_field data. However, it's unclear if you can include custom_fields data in CustomerOptions... or even what you'd call it. E.g. you can set customerOptions.SourceToken... but the actual argument for Stripe is "source"... so Alpha is not clear and it's not document what is going on in the call.

                    Overall, you may be better off using the cURL Genie to create a call yourself. That way at least you have full control and you're not dependent on undocumented or partially implemented Alpha code.
