Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Uploading multiple images at once

We have a mobile application (product inspection app) where a number of pictures can be taken. Each image is stored as a filename in a table row (MySQL) - a single image per row.
Is there any way to upload multiple images at once?
The current method works well - although there could be about 15-20 images required for a single inspection and this requires a few steps per photo.
If there was a way where the photos are all taken, then a single upload step where all photos can be selected and uploaded at once, this would further reduce time taken.
I'm aware that the database table structure may not suit this, but open to suggestions?
    Thanks

Re: Uploading multiple images at once

You could use the Action Javascript "File Upload - Amazone S3 Storage or Alpha Anywhere Server". This lets you...

        Select Multiple files
        Display upload progress
Name each file via the Action Javascript property "Target object name of Amazon S3"
Run Javascript when all files are uploads are complete via the Action property "On Upload Complete - All Files". Here you could get the upload file array, convert it to a string and pass it to an XBasic function which would add multiple rows to your SQL table.

          That works well - thanks.
The only thing I can't figure out is how to resize the image before upload - there's the option to do this when uploading a single image, but I don't see it for this action.
Is there a method to resize the images?

Specifically, which upload Action are you using for the single image upload? I don't see an S3 Action that allows image sizing.

The single image upload action provides a resize option:
              image_upload_1.png

The multiple file upload action doesn't:
              image_upload_multiple.png

Re: Uploading multiple images at once

Thanks... now I see it... but... the Image Upload Action doesn't offer S3 as an option. I believe the reason there is no resize option is that the files are uploaded client to S3... essentially without Alpha server involvement. The resizing options are available when the Alpha server is involved... and the sizing is done on the server.

You can resize an image on the fly using HTML5 Canvas. This way you can generate any number of images and sizes prior to performing a sync with the server. The benefit is the user will also see the resized images immediately. We are starting to do this with our field applications.
