Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Print Report with no detail records

    Is there a way to print a report with a Report or Page Header that has no detail records? By default Alpha prints a page that reads "No record for this report"

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Re: Print Report with no detail records

    I'm guessing you could create a report against any table that contains at least one record.
    Add one field to the detail section. Set the field's color to white or whatever color the paper will be.

        Check the table prior to running the report.

        If not records are there, add a record with xbasic.

        Then run the report.

          I asked the same thing but, the client wants it as a positive confirmation that no records were added to table. The blank page with the line " No records" is not good enough for them

            Instead of running the report with "No record for this report", why not display a message box to the screen with that effect?

                So add the record to the table and fill a field with "No Records Found "+now() to print on the report. Might want to fancify the time display....

                Delete the record when the report has finished.

                There are multiple ways to handle this, but you'll need to think out of the box a bit.

                Let us know what the client really wants to see, how it's run now, and we'll try to come up with a way to make it happen.

                Combining a pre report check with a filter passed to the report (ie filter to the first record?) and a conditional object in the detail section on the report can do it.

                I don't know how complicated this report is now and how you can best modify it.

                  Would someone consider sharing a sample report that displays a dialog box when there are no records instead of the default behavior of printing a page that states there are no records for this report?
                  Thanks

                    Re: Print Report with no detail records

                    You could add a conditional object to the form so that the query which selects records to print if it returns 0 displays the No records or whatever.
                    However, I suspect you need confirmation that there are no added records in the TABLE, which is slightly different.
                    So let us know a bit more about what needs checking can you?

                      Add this table to a database/workspace to see one method.

                      NoRecords.zip

                      You can check a variety of things to see if the no record message is appropriate. A query would tell you how many records would display.

                        Re: Print Report with no detail records

                        I have several instances where I use one report to show detail where there is detail to be displayed and a second report which does not show any detail when there is none to be displayed. I name the second report with the same name as the first but with the letters 'MT' appended, indicating the report is empty. (eg. VacancyReport & VacancyReportMT) Before printing the report, I run a query to test for the existence of detail records to be displayed. If the result of the query is 0, then I print the 'MT' report. Both reports can be tied to the same table.

                        Initially, I needed help to do this because I wasn't adept with queries. Here is the query I have used to test for the existence of any vacancy records to print.

                        Code:
                        query.order = ""
                        query.filter = "(noticependingyn = .t.  )  .or. (dispopendingyn = .t.  ) .or. (applicationpendingyn = .t.  ) " + \
                        " .or. (status = \"Dispo\"  .or.  status = \"Notice\"  .or.  status = \"Vacant\"  .or.  status = \"Vac-App\" .or. status = \"Vac-Dep\"  )" + \
                        " .or. (status = \"Vac-Not\" ) "

                        dim rcdCount as n = 0
                        rcdCount = a5_get_records_in_query("tblUnitInformation",query.filter)
                        If rcdCount = 0 after running the query, I print VacancyReportMT. You will have to develop your own query.filter.
