Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

iOS 12.2 public beta 3 PhoneGap Photo Upload

    Hi Everyone,

I have had a couple of users on the iOS 12.2 public beta 3 complain that a photo upload button no longer works for the iPhone in a PhoneGap App (nothing happens when you click it). I know this is just a beta release right now, but knowing Apple it might make it into the full release. Has anyone else seen this bug?

    Cheers,

    Scott

Re: iOS 12.2 public beta 3 PhoneGap Photo Upload

PhoneGap and PhoneGap Build are fast moving targets so it's never surprising when something breaks. PhoneGap Build is currently utilizing XCode 9 while iOS 12.2 beta is using XCode 10.

The UIWebView deprecation is looming and WKWebView is so full of holes that it cannot be used as a drop-in replacement.

Also, there hasn't been a blogpost for PhoneGap Build this year... which is worrying... and nothing from Alpha about the UIWebView deprecation.

I'm not sure it matters, but you don't mention the cli version used with PhoneGap Build for the app.

      Hey David,

Thanks for the input...I found one of the blog posts on this topic here.

Well that is concerning if the replacement for UIWebView is not up to snuff yet. I think I remember playing around with it and it didn't work.

I wonder what I would do in this case if a key part of my app stops working. I guess there might be a temporary patch but I am sure more pain to come as Apple moves further away form WKWebView.

I wonder if it makes sense to use the new Alpha RESTful API features and build a native app using one of the Rapid Application development tools that can produce standard Swift code that integrates with my Alpha API. So my backend code is all the same on Alpha but I can just use another tool to build the GUI of the app (example https://www.kinetise.com).

Of course prefer to stay with PhoneGap - curious to see how this plays out.

Re: iOS 12.2 public beta 3 PhoneGap Photo Upload

UIWebView and WKWebView are actually both plugins available to PhoneGap Build. iOS supported UIWebView in the past but it has now been deprecated. It's still there, but we've been warned. UIWebView is the default plugin used by PGB. If WKWebView is utilized, then it automatically replaces UIWebView. However, WKWebView has a number of major problems.

Using the Alpha API is something I've been looking at, successfully, in conjunction with Flutter.io.

          Hey David,

Flutter.io looks cool. Have you been able to build a an app back to an Alpha REST API that includes login and session state?

          My cli was 7.0.1 btw

I haven't implemented a login yet. I created a simple "getCustomer" and "updateCustomer" to a MySQL back end just to prove out the concept. It's all comes down to XBasic so login and other Alpha server operations should be ok.
