Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Remove checkbox on grid with Checkbox Select Colunn

    I am using a Grid. Is there a way to remove the checkbox on certain rows based on a field in the row?

    Thanks in advance,
    Alan

    Re: Remove checkbox on grid with Checkbox Select Colunn

    An assumption is made that you want to hide the Select Checkbox of the Grid.

    Using the Client-side Event, onRowRender, add this code...

    Code:
    if(e.rowNumber > 0){
    	var zeroRow = e.rowNumber - 1;
    	var currFName = this._originalValues[zeroRow][1];
    	if(currFName == "Bill"){
    		$("{Grid.ComponentName}.V.R" + e.rowNumber + ".__ROWCHECKBOX").style.display = "none";
    	}
    }
    onRowRender runs for each row... and gives you e.rowNumber which is the 1 based row number. You need to check if the current row number is greater than zero in case your Grid allows for empty rows... which have a row number of -1, -2, etc.

    The Grid data values can be found in this._originalValues which is an array within an array... but it's not that smart of an array... and is zero based for both arrays. You need to know the order of your data rows. For example, I have a FirstName column which is the 2nd column of my Grid. Therefore, for the current row data, I must look at a zero based row number, and then a zero based column number. To get the FirstName value of the 2nd row it would be this._originalValues[1][1].

    Once I have the data I want, I can test its value and if I want to hide that checkbox then I can use style.display = "none"; against that current row id... making sure I address the zero based current row number within that id.

      Thanks David.
      I am getting an error "unable to get property '5' of undefined or null reference".
      My field is the 6th field in the grid that I'm wanting to interrogate.
      I copy pasted what you had, and made just a small change to the field name so I don't think I did it correctly.

      if(e.rowNumber > 0){
      var zeroRow = e.rowNumber - 1;
      var currTaskStatus = this._originalValues[zeroRow][4];
      if(currTaskStatus == "Completed"){
      $("{Grid.ComponentName}.V.R" + e.rowNumber + ".__ROWCHECKBOX").style.display = "none";
      }
      }

        There are a hundred ways to set up a Grid... with a hundred more property settings. You are most likely working with a read-only, non-editable Grid... and so you don't have access to the ._originalValues property.

        I can't see any other property that gives you access to data while in this event, so you'll need to get the data yourself. Doing this, you no longer need to bother with the zeroRow variable.

        Code:
        if(e.rowNumber > 0){
             var currTaskStatus = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','TASKSTATUS',e.rowNumber);
             if(currTaskStatus == "Completed"){
                  $("{Grid.ComponentName}.V.R" + e.rowNumber + ".__ROWCHECKBOX").style.display = "none";
             }
        }
        With a non-editable Grid you also don't really need to worry about checking the e.rowNumber for a negative value... but might as well leave it in... can't hurt.

          David,
          That worked perfectly.

          Thanks so much. I will add this to my knowledge base going forward.
