Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    List Control Display Issue - conditional button

    I am having trouble getting a list control to work correctly.
    list1.png This shows two classes available. Both have a button displayed called "Zoom Information". Trouble is only the first class should show that button. The second class does not have it available. Sometimes there are 4 or 5 classes available, of which only 1 or 2 would have Zoom service available, so I want the "Zoom Information" button to show only for those two. The data field, 'zoom', in the table is a logical field to indicate if is available.

    How can I get the list control to show these buttons correctly? Here are the settings in the list builder:
    Screen Shot 2019-03-13 at 8.48.39 AM.png and Screen Shot 2019-03-13 at 8.48.03 AM.png

    Can anyone offer some help?

    Thanks!!!

    Re: List Control Display Issue - conditional button

    When you write that it's a 'logical' field, what does that mean... what is the actual data type in the table... and... what kind of database?

    The issue is probably your syntax in the show/hide expression. Alpha has several ways of using syntax here. "Help on Syntax Rules" shows a more "xbasic" manner... zoom = true... with 1 equal sign.
    If you're using a Javascript expression... as you are... then you must using Javascript syntax... which would use 2 equals signs. "Using Javascript Syntax for Expression" explains this.

    Code:
    Javascript:data.Zoom == true
    The issue might be further complicated by the way the Alpha interprets logical data. If you actually show the 'zoom' field in your List, how does it display? In a table I have, the logical field is set as bit(1) with values of 0 and 1. The List Field tab shows this field as (L). By default... Alpha interprets and displays this as a character 'T' in the List data. Therefore, the show/hide expression must be...

    Code:
    Javascript:data.Zoom == 'T'
    You can change this default behaviour by using the "Transform data type" property in the Fields tab for 'Zoom'. Change the data type to 'ToLogical' and it will then be true or false and you can then use...

    Code:
    Javascript:data.Zoom == true

      The table is MariaDB table. The field in a tinyinteger with 1 digit width. Values allowed are 0 or 1.
      Using the Javascript with a double == signs fails. Nothing will show for any row. I use Javascript:data.Zoom = true. Using any other syntax will either not show anything or a javascript error.

        Using MySQL (pretty much the same) and a TinyInt(1) field, Alpha will show the field as 'T' or 'F' by default. Change your show/hide to...

        Code:
        Javascript:data.Zoom == 'T'
        You must use Javascript syntax.
