Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Calendar Options

I know the question of what calendar to use comes up here from time to time. Many devs here seem to say that the JQCalendar is the way to go. Is that still the case? Looking at the website it doesn't appear to have been updated in nearly four years. Is there another option anyone has used here?

I'm needing, in the semi-near future a calendar for both web and mobile apps. Full calendar ( fullcalendar link ) seems promising but I haven't begun to look over the documentation to know either way.

Regardless of any recent updates, Jim's calendar does work well and it is very reliable. Jim is also very well versed in its capabilities and limitations - if you want to do anything outside of the already built in functions Jim can guide you. In the many years I have been using it, he responded fast and with excellent input anytime I had a question or problem. Highly recommend!

Yes, I haven't updated it in years as there isn't much to add. No, it's not the best for mobile, although it works fine in tablet size devices as a web app. I know there are many users still going strong as I still occasionally, as Charles mentioned, get questions on its use.

            Re: Calendar Options

There are Javascript calendars from FullCalendar.io and DHTMLX.com.

FullCalendar is a free to use, up to date calendar that works will in web and mobile. There is a Scheduler add-on that they charge for.
DHTMLX also has free to use products... a Calendar, Scheduler... which include basic functions. These all work well with web and mobile.

              Re: Calendar Options

I was talking to my Alpha Software rep TODAY about the 'Calendar Component' built into ALPHA. While he thought that you do NOT need a license for the built in Calendar, I distinctly remember that you do need a separate license for it. I just went to the documentation and it does state that you need a license. My rep seems to think that was for previous versions and Alpha Anywhere does not need a separate license.

Is anyone using the built in Calendar Component with Alpha Anywhere and do you need a separate license?

BTW, I used JQCalendar a few years ago and once you get it figured out, it works well.

Just tried to create a Calendar Component in Alpha Anywhere and you do need a license for 'Web2Cal'. From $499 to $1099. http://web2cal.com

                  Re: Calendar Options

I thought I read a while ago that Web2Cal no longer supports Alpha. I might be wrong on that however.

I'm thinking fullcalendar is the way I'm going to go.

                  Thanks for the feedback.

                    Re: Calendar Options

We use the fullcalendar with AlphaFive. There is no genie to start, but the documents and samples from fullcalendar are very useful.
