    Default Genie Update Numeric Assign Serial Number

    I am trying to use the operation but does not assign numbers in a numeric order. I creates 200 with the same number, then increase by 1, then maybe 2 or 300 more before increasing by 1.
    I can't seem to figure out why it does not work as expected.
    in the attached pic is shows an example of how it will fill the fields but it does not do that.
    I have rebuilt indexes. should I delete all the indexes and have Alpha create new ones?
    I am afraid to set the field rules to not have duplicates because it might lock it up.

    I have spent an hour looking at the various options.
    This is what I did;
    Create a table with an index and a default value for the PK - PK is Char, Numeric is 18 no decimals.
    Created 1k records.
    Added a record without the numeric value.
    Ran an update using 1234567890 as the seed.

    The issue I found is that if there is any data in the PK field and it is before the field to be updated, the update numerics get screwed.

    So, removed the Index - same problem
    Removed all other data, problem gone

    It looks like the presence of other data prior to the field you need to update is causing the issue.

    So I reconfigured the table to have the numeric field as the first item, then it all works.

    Workaround;

    Create a simple 2 field table from the existing main table which has the key and the numeric field in it.
    Have the numeric field as the first field in the table.
    Run the update process and check the results.
    Append the simple table data to a copy of the main table based on the key.

    If you try this make sure you have adequate backups.

    All my incremented fields are numeric. They always seem to work. I usually let new apps start with a 1 not "1"
    If using char of say, 18 characters the the seed/beginning has to be packed with 17 0's to start with "1" if seeded with "1" actually would come out to "000000000000000001"

    Hope this helped

    thanks, my fields are numeric, i was trying to populate over 4000 records. I finally got it to work by running the operation with the form closed.
