Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Alpha shuts down with reports, Letters or Labels ?

Installed av5v11 (build..don't remember) on a new laptop. works fine except when trying to preview letters, reports or labels, alpha shuts down.
Compact, re-built indices etc, no luck.
Uninstalled, re-installed Windows 10: worked for a short while, then same problems.
Start a new workplace or a new User, worked for a short while, then back at it again !
    Anyone ran into this problems?

Is this a compatibility issue with Windows 10? Registry issue? DDD issue?

Re: Alpha shuts down with reports, Letters or Lables ?

I’ve just downloaded Alpha Anywhere Desktop Developer to my Microsoft Surface Pro 6 running Windows 10 Home. My app locks up when trying to save a record. Alpha 5 works fine on Windows 10 Professional. I’m obviously very disappointed to start off with this problem. Any advice is welcome

      G.
      Try running V11 as Administrator.
Also worth trying running the Compatability check.

Win10 updates are a pita and do mess stuff up.

I have the problem with V10.5 running in Win10

I have numerous installations of alpha V11 and V12. My practice is to install the files on the root of C: like C:\A5V11 or C:\A5V12RT.
Maybe I'm just lucky but no issues with Microsoft operating systems.
You can set the compatibility mode to Windows 7.
I always set Alpha to run as an administrator. Right click on the alpha5.exe file.

This may or may not help but I have a client currently using desktop app and whenever there is a windows 10 update it knocks out registry settings for the printer. Go to the registry editor and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG -> Software -> and if you cannot see reference to Alpha printer driver then a reinstall of the v11 patch partially sorts. Once reinstalled go back to this registry entry and make sure the users group has full control permissions set for the driver.

I just love Microsoft updates, not!

Thank you all, but unfortunately none of the above resolves the issue.
I get couple error messages every now and then. Haven't looked into either one yet:

I think it is a corrupt or a missing file, more specifically:
                A5IUTIL.dll

                  Glen:
                  The Registry has:
                  AlphaFivePrinterV4p5 as a default.
                  Is that what you have?

Not sure but make sure you installed the Amyuni files in the alpha 5 folder. Find the folder AmyuniV4, the find the file InstallAmyuniPrinters.exe.
Right click and select run as Administrator.

                        Dig out your version, G.
I can probably supply the last patch - ever - if you haven't got it.
(Proably not, as I don't think John W loaded it.)

                            Ted:
                            v11/Build 3381
                            System Addins: Build 4096
I downloaded the patch from alpha website, but still same issue

I believe the problem is a corrupt a5iutil.dll file
I downloaded v11 full patch , but the problem remains.
Ted, if you have that download file (A5V11_FULL_PATCH , or just the a5iutil.dll file) I will give it try.
                              Thanks
