Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Alpha shuts down with reports, Letters or Lables ?

I am finding that when alpha un-installs, it remains in the Registry. Anyone has experience with completely removing alpha from the Registry? Safe?

There should be some posts about that G.
I would suggest a free copy of CCleaner, run the Registry fixer and it will prompt you to save the current settings first. If anything goes wrong next, you can replace the Reg from the backup.
If you delete the Alph instance in the Reg, you should be good to go.

You can also backup and replace the Reg using MS tools.

I have stuff to do this morning but will look out the bits you asked about.

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.

        G:

When I reinstall Alpha my first step is always to go to the registry and delete the version I'm reinstalling. Somethimes this means reinstalling both full verion and runtime but that doesn't bother me if it fixes the problem.

Re: Alpha shuts down with reports, Letters or Lables ?

Ted, thank you very much for your generosity.
Finian, Thank you for your input.

I think I figured it out. Here is a brief summary that I hope will help others that might encounter this problem:
This started few months back after I bought a new Laptop to replace a lousy HP laptop that came loose at the seems. Everything was fine at the beginning. When I attempted to open a VBA script, among so many I that had in Excel, I kept getting a message "Out of memory" and won't open the VBA editor. It made no sense since the laptop has a lot of memory. There was another error message that I can't quite remember right now, but needless to say that was very aggravating. After extensive research and endless trials and errors, nothing worked. Believe it or not, I spent couple hours on the phone with a tech rep from Microsoft Office and still no luck, which is why I abhor Microsoft. Read on and you will share my sentiment. Alpha was working fine at the time.

I ended up uninstalling and re-installing windows along with all other applications and data. Quite a bit of work to say the least. Now Excel and VBA are working great, but then, I can't print anything out of alpha!
Going through endless research and trails, no luck. I have learned more about errors in Microsoft Windows 10 than I care to know. Totally useless information. But I finally focused on one error 0x80004005.
Come to find out that if some way some how you did not install Windows updates properly, Windows will prevent applications from some of the file sharing. What happened is, I have Windows updates to download automatically, but they install at certain times when I am on WiFi connection. They were all (3 updates) downloaded already but not installed. I installed all 3, took maybe no more than few minutes and now all is well with the world !

Go Figure! That mammoth company called Microsoft with thousands of engineers working there everyday, they cannot tell what is error 0x80004005 nor put it in English language to tell you you need to install your updates. I went to hell and back for months, couldn't do anything with Excel or alpha, because of this stupidity!
Unfortunately, they are the only game in town, realistically speaking.
It's working for now. Will see what comes next.

I do feel your pain. The most miserable experience I've had with computers in the last 10 years, by far, was moving a desktop from Win 8.1 to Windows 10. It took about 4 days and involved multiple miserable experiences with Microsoft support. Not as bad as you experienced but had me a near basket-case at the time!

            Glad you sorted it out.

We've also suffered the same problem - fix is to ensure a default printer is selected and that it is not OneNote
