Hi,
I know that this topic has been discussed many times, but I remain confused. I would very much appreciate some advice.
For over ten years I have hosted my website on a small PC/server in my office. Web traffic is currently very low and it works fine, apart from the occasional 'blue screen of death' on the server. I am very used to the WAS and updating my website etc. I note that a few people don't use the Alpha WAS, but I am very comfortable with it, indeed I have zero experience anywhere else.
However, I now want publish two additional websites on separate URL's. Can I do this on the same server, or do I need separate servers?
Can I do it all through one broadband line with one router, or do I need separate routers and broadband feeds etc?
Also, do I need to purchase an additional WAS licence for each website?
Finally, after many years, I am considering upgrading my WAS server - and maybe partitioning the hard drive for each website?? Apart from a quality PSU, can you please advise me on what the best server spec would be - I am keen to avoid the opposite to 'always up'!
Would RAID be an advantage, and if so, which configuration? Or would it be better to run two servers side by side, with Always Up? (As you can see, I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I do tend to follow instructions pretty well. :-)
Or should I just give in and migrate to Zebra? The ongoing costs as well as my lack of understanding put me off of this route. Over the last ten years my internal hosting has worked pretty well and has cost me zilch.
Thank you for your interest and I look forward to your advice.
Kind regards,
Larry
