Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    List sort indicator missing

    Actually I have 2 issues.

    1. images 1 and 2. Image 1 is missing sort parameters for Sort Where and Initial Sort Direction. These parameters are available in image 2. Otherwise these are two separate tables with plain vanilla list setup. I need to change initial sort direction.

    2. Images 3 and 4. I accidentally left the column for adjustments to sort on client side, and a sort indicator (or something) shows up in the column title when the title is clicked, but it is overlaid on the title. (and it is not sorting correctly.) When server side sorting is done, the sort indicator is missing altogether, but sort looks correct.

    Is the missing indicator a CSS thing? I am using GrBlue.

    Bill.

    Re: List sort indicator missing

    The Sort properties look the same in your image1 and image2. Both Sort Where and Initial Sort Direction are shown in both images. It looks like image3 is missing some properties. But they're not really missing. This is the property grid bug. If you get out of the layout... and back in... your properties will be there.

    It looks like you don't get a Sort Indicator when the "Sort where" property is ServerSide... regardless of the style.

    Further, when using GRBlue, ClientSide sort, the sort indicator is placed on top of the Column Title if the Title is right-justified - so it looks pretty bad.
    This does not happen when using the Alpha style. The Title is moved slightly to the left when the Sort Indicator is visible. So... this is an error in the GRBlue style... and probably other styles as well.

    Are you sure you want to have a ServerSide sort? This means a callback is make for every sort.

      Re: List sort indicator missing

      Since there are 200K to 500K records in a list I only bring a few at a time, but sort needs to cover everything.

      I tried the Alpha style briefly a while back and had horrible results. When the dust settles I need to create images using different CSS styles, or does that exist?

      But any idea why in the image there is no longer a property to set the sort location? I couldn't change it to client side sort if I wanted to.

      Oops, I did not read your post closely enough. But I got out of the component and even restarted Alpha, and those properties still do not reappear.

        Very odd. I was pretty sure I saw the same... but now I cannot duplicate it. Is there something in the List ChargeAmount field properties? What does that look like? What's different between the 2 tables... or fields?

        Unsure about creating images using different CSS styles.

          I've had a closer look at the missing sort indicator when using ServerSide sort. The image is actually there... but always has display:none; Looks like this is a bug.

          The images used are:
          CSS/GrBlue/GridSortDesc.png
          CSS/GrBlue/GridSortAsc.png

            I could find the style builder and make a local copy of GrBlue, but could not find a way to search for GridSortDesc.

              Re: List sort indicator missing

              There are 2 bugs: display:none; is always set, and the image position is bad because the style set for the image is position:absolute;.

              It's not really a style class issue because the image doesn't have a class. If it had a class you could easily override it. This just wasn't implemented by Alpha... they just didn't do it. It was implemented for ClientSide but then forgotten about for ServerSide... not too surprised.

              If you really want it, you can use the List Event afterServerSideSort. Use this code...

              Code:
              var currCol = e.column - 1;
              switch(e.direction){
              	case "a":
              		setTimeout(function(){
              			$('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.CHARGE_LIST.CONTROL.CHEADER.' + currCol + '.IMG').src = "CSS/GrBlue/GridSortAsc.png";
              		},50);
              		break;
              	case "d":
              		setTimeout(function(){
              			$('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.CHARGE_LIST.CONTROL.CHEADER.' + currCol + '.IMG').src = "CSS/GrBlue/GridSortDesc.png";
              		},50);
              		break;
              }

              setTimeout(function(){
              	$('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.CHARGE_LIST.CONTROL.CHEADER.' + currCol + '.IMG').style.display = "inline";
              	$('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.CHARGE_LIST.CONTROL.CHEADER.' + currCol + '.IMG').style.position = "initial";
              },50);
              Even though the image is always hidden, Alpha never updates it anyway... it's always Asc. The event has 2 parameters... column and direction. direction is fine... it's either 'a' or 'd'. column represents the column you're in... and is 1 based... however the List column is 0 based... so... thanks again Alpha.

              The code above runs after you click on a heading and a ServerSide sort is performed. The correct img is used... and then display is turned on... and it's position is set properly.
              We need to set a short setTimeout to let the sort settle down before fixing the style.

              Overall, what is amazing about Alpha is that we're able to get in and do this stuff. What's not amazing is that we shouldn't have to.

                Re: List sort indicator missing

                David, that is awesome! Thanks so much. I will request enhancement from Alpha, but others are bound to have done it before.

                And the issue of the missing "sort where" parameter for each column - on the Data Source tab for the list there is a box for server side sorting. Checking that also removes "initial sort direction" for each column, which is what I needed.
