Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

There are fixes for Git bugs in the current pre-release... have you tried that? Alpha doesn't employ any kind of testing protocol so it'll probably be ok to use in the next few pre-releases after developers have tested and reported bugs they find.

We just moved to the June production version and still get this error message. Has anyone been able to get the Git feature to work in the current production release (5887-5315)?

I was able to get this to work by manually creating a blank file in my C:\USERS\(username) folder called _NETRC. Once I did this, I restarted Alpha and pushed and it created a new Master branch correctly in my Github repository.

Have you applied the Hotfixes for 5887? Here are the details for one of them...

            Code:
Hotfix - Various Fixes - Web Control panel - Fixes an issue where a custom column in the Web Control Panel was more than 260 characters, UX Builder - Fixes a cosmetic issue when you move the position of a control in the UX Builder, Web Control Panel - GitHub - Fixes an issue when pushing to GitHub if an existing _netrc file was not found.

David - you caught me on that one. I applied the first hot fix but not the second one that fixes the issue. Thanks!

I find I must check the "official" release page for hot fixes and pre-release page every day for bug fixes... and then test everything because the fixes may not have been tested.

                  There's a hot-fix for 5887?? I don't see any links? ... https://alphaanywheredownloads.s3.am...Downloads.html

Disregard, I found them. They are in the release notes. They should be on the official download page or at least a note telling people there is a hotfix to download.

There were 4 hotfixes for 5887. They combined 3 into one because the notes for the hotfixes were so confusing and contradictory. So now there are 2 hotfixes. You must check the "official" release notes page... and the pre-release notes page every day.

Re: anyone has any issues with the new git feature?

The one big issue I see with the current (and very new) implementation of Git source integration is that there doesn't seem to be a way to control branching. Without branching, I haven't been able to turn on tracking to allow us to use this in a team source environment. When I try to pull from Master, I get the message:

There is no tracking information for the current branch.
Please specify which branch you want to merge with.
                      See git-pull(1) for details.
                      git pull <remote> <branch>
If you wish to set tracking information for this branch you can do so with:
                      git branch --set-upstream-to=origin/<branch> master
Because we can't pull tracked changes, we are unable to synchronize between team members. That's one of the primary benefits of source control. Maybe I'm missing a step in Alpha but currently we are continuing to use the standard Git GUI interface for our project.
