Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How do you email from a terminal server session

Pardon my explanation as I might get some details mixed up.

We are putting A5V11 on a server running each session in a virtual machine environment.
Is it possible to send an email from inside of the application?

Currently if the runtime is on a work station with that users email client (outlook) installed,
we can send emails of reports using a button on the reports toolbar.

Using RDP/TS, there is no email client on the VM. Is it possible to send an email or does one
have to save the report as a pdf and copy to the users work station.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: How do you email from a terminal server session

    Hi Ron,
I am sorry to say I read these thread today and therefore the specifics of your set up is critical:

However, I believe the happy answer to your question is absolutely you can, very powerfully! The unhappy answer to your question is that it takes some setting up to do. We have a server running Win 10 with 2008R2 server as VM with app on the VM. Folks log into server through RDP and have run-time access to app on the server.

I have a very robust email system setup in URSA (name of my app= Universal Resource Sharing Application). I use email_smtp_open() and email_smtp_send() as I have found over the years these are the absolute very most universal and steadfast and with an email client written in xdialog as part of the email sequence, doesn't require linking into secondary applications or the Alpha email client which is/are lacking. My system is composed of three UDF's - email client, email finish, email send and includes email recipient search, cc and bc searches, attachment imports, and spell checks. Although these are not at all usable to you out-of-the-box because of all the app specific stuff I have in there, but I have none-the- less included the codes below which you will have to cull or apply the nested UDFs and table calls that don't pertain to your app and tailor it to your circumstance. It took quite some time to develop over many months but it is rock solid and a major component to my system. I'd be glad to help further, just PM me if you have need and we can get together.

Mike, thanks a lot for your response. I probably won't get a chance to look at this until tonight.

Mike, thanks a lot for your help. I studied your functions and they are quite impressive. I can see why it took months for you to get the code working.

For now, we have decided not to have the ability to email from within the Alpha application when using T/S.

        Thanks again.

As a followup, we are going with a product called: TSPrint.

Easy-to-use software that enables you to print files from a terminal server to the locally connected printer. TSPrint is a must have for both small offices and big companies. Download TSPrint for a free 25-day trial, and test the product in your environment.
You can print, save pdf files to your local machine and email from you local machine.
Selecting email opens up your default email client and already has attached your pdf file.

            Hi Ron,
Glad you have a solution that works for you. This could never work for our group. We email orders, contracts, invoices, etc all as attachments in emails and what was sent, who sent it, when was it sent, to where did it go all must be documented for tracking purposes within the system automatically upon the email being sent. We also have a company policy... company records do not reside on individual computers.
