Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Major issue with today's release 5887

Scrolling through the list of Components in the Web Projects Control Panel, either with a mouse, or PgDn, blows up Alpha and it shuts down.

Is it just my install? Could someone confirm this... thanks.

I just downloaded the release and it's working ok for me. I went to WebProjects control panel and with keystroke, mouse and pagedown I can scroll the list.

I thought I didn't see a problem until it reduced the Web Projects Control Panel.

With all IDE windows maximized: No problem

With all IDE windows reduced: No problem

With the main IDE window maximized but with the Web Projects Control Panel reduced: this panel's scroll disappears and PgDn jumps to select the end of the list of components so that I can't see it because no scroll bar (and the end of the list is "below thefold"). If I maximize it then reduce it again (or move the control panel window on the screen), the scrollbar reappears and I see no other problems.

A little more info. I can scroll through my A5W Pages window... no issues. It contains 305 files. HTML Page, ok... everything else ok.

But, the Web Components window contains 1946 files... and it blows up when scrolling.

This also happens with pre-release 5875.

This DOES NOT happen with release 5864.

So... I'm not sure when this bug was introduced... but it's there.

Does anyone have a large number of components in a project to confirm this?

Install and test a version of Alpha that blows up?? ...no thanks. I'll pass on this one.

A bit more... if I filter the Components window and the results are, for example, 100 components... then I can scroll without Alpha blowing up.

              I agree with Mike....

I am currently struggling with 5864 and what I call memory bloat.
I have a large component, and every time it is loaded via a web page, or the page is refreshed the A5Webapplication.exe grabs more CPU memory.
Eventually AA stops responding for that page...

Unfortunately for me, I have this version in production environments. Call me silly, but I needed it for other reasons and I spent a week testing my app before deploying it.
It only showed up when one of my clients was doing staff training.
Luckily server reboots every night are masking the problem...

Have called for assistance from Alpha, supplied application code and awaiting results.... fingers crossed.

P.S. Try this on your development environment to see if you get the same issue.

How large is a large component?

I just installed Build 5887 (update from Build 5667) to test this out but I am not seeing the issue with either scrolling or paging through a list of about 200 components.

Re: Major issue with today's release 5887

This bug is fixed in today's pre-release, build 5888. I added the Comments column to the Web Control Panel years ago. If you did this, and there was a comment for a component that was longer than 260 character, Alpha would crash. Alpha sample component comments usually have a lot of information and so Alpha crashed. I had a feeling it might be something to do with the comments column because I could scroll until I saw a comment come into view... and then... kaboom.

However, here's the problem. I can't use Official Release 5887 because it blows up. I can't use pre-release 5888 which fixes the Official Release because Alpha warns not to use it in production. There's a hotfix for another bug in the Official Release, so that's ok... but now I'm stuck until the next Official Release.

Hmmm, I wonder if there's a solution to this bug cycle... nope... can't think of a thing.

                      David,

Yes, that has long been my biggest frustration with Alpha, they put you into a no win cycle of buggy Official Release but don't use Pre-Release in production dilemma.
As you have said before though, is there really any difference between them? Unless you have a dedicated test environment (which I don't) it is quite frustrating.
Not to mention the time consuming bug reporting process, which I try to avoid whenever possible any more.

                        Hi David,

Prior to 5864 the unpublished component was over 10MB, and became 8+MB when published.
Now on 5864 the unpublished component is 6.8MB and published 4.4MB. However when you load the page the A5Server ...(exe) increases by more that 20MB per load, sometimes greater, then eventually stops.
Using the PhoneGap installed front end does not behave the same.

I've had to revert back to build 5667 as the new release randomly messes up some of my list header css. And round and round we go!

It's funny you mention problems with your header. After upgrading to version 5887, I began having problems running a simple refreshListData command on a list. I would get a console log error "Cannot set property display of undefined." The only way I was able to make the error go away was to un-check the “Show column titles” option . I then ran into problems with another list running the saveListEdits command like we always have. I received the error "Cannot set property <field name> of undefined". This error seems to be related to klass.setRowClean. I looked at my data after the error and indeed I still have dirty rows in my list. I tried removing the column titles from this list as well as several other changes with no luck. Not sure what else to do but revert to a previous release. It works fine for me in 5647.

It seems that this problem is only happening in IE 11 (even with today's pre-release 5905-5320).
Chrome and Firefox seem to render the heading in-line css styles properly.
