Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

You are not allows to enter records table ................... (Permission Denied)

This one has me stumped. I have lots and lots of web-based applications and they have all been working fine for many years, but within the past six months, this one particular grid/table has been having continual issues. It's a time card application, where each employee has records pre-entered for the next 10 years, and all he or she has to do is open that particular day and edite the field(s) that need to be updated. (see screenshot below) In other words, the user is not actually entering any new records, he/she is just editing fields.

The problem is that sometimes it works fine, but more often than not, after the user updates one particular day, when he/she moves to the next day and tries to update that record, the data disappears from the web grid after clicking the submit button, and does not get entered. Sometimes (if the user is lucky) he/she will be able to get two or three days updated before it stops working, and sometimes only one day. It has no rhyme or reason to it. But when it does stop taking entries, if the user waits a while and comes back to the application, it will usually work again for one or two more updates, then it stops again.

While looking at the table after a user has tried (and failed) to make an update, I noticed this message on the screen:
    Screen Shot 06-20-19 at 04.37 AM.JPG

But I have no idea why it is saying the user does not have permission, and when I click on the "Why" button, it opens another box but has no explanation:

Has anyone encountered this message? And if so, do you have any idea how to fix it?

    Thanks,
    Rich

either the session has expired or your not actually on a "new" record which might be causing a write conflict with one or all of the fields. Personally, I think the best way to solve the this would be to share the component with someone else who might be able to spot how it is happening.
When you say, " if the user waits a while and comes back to the application..." does that mean they close and reopen it or is it always open?
Like I said, you might want to share this with a seasoned dev because there could be multiple reasons or one that is more difficult to spot with the limited info in a post regarding the component.

Well the session shouldn't be expired because the user is in the middle of entering data and the web page is still open. Keep in mind that the user is never entering a "new" record, they are always updating existing records. For example there is 14 days in our work period, and the user may wait until the end to enter his/her hours for that period. He enters 8 hours on Monday, 8 hours on Tuesday and 8 hours on Wednesday (which are all separate records), and submits those changes. Then he tries to enter 10 hours on Thursday or may make a different change to Wednesday such as to add some overtime, and when he clicks the submit button, the data on the screen disappears. On the back end, it's because the "Permission Denied" message has appeared. So the user waits a few minutes, tries it again, and it works. Sometimes the user is closing out of the web page and re-opening it (which I assume would start a new session), and sometimes he/she just stays on the page and after 5 minutes or so, the data can be re-entered and this time it works. It's bizarre, and it doesn't happen with any of my other web grids.

I think I will make a little video showing exactly what this is doing.

So it is happening AFTER the submit button is clicked? Can you load this into chrome and look at dev tools for any additional POST or GET data (or any other errors in the console) that might be happening during submit?
