Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Console Error: ReferenceError: A5 is not defined at style.js

Console Error: ReferenceError: A5 is not defined at style.js

My application keeps getting a console error that says the following:

Uncaught ReferenceError: A5 is not defined
    at style.js:1

which then underlines the top line of the style.js file which is

    Code:
    A5.themes.add('iOS7Local',{

    ...

    }
I didn't always get this error, so I am confused as to what is causing it. Is there another JS file where A5 is defined that the application isn't loading for some reason? If so, does anyone know what file that would be and how I could possibly resolve this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    What is it missing

Errors are, usually, very build specific. You'd have to report the build of Alpha you're using. Also the type of component getting the error.

Do you get this error when running localhost? Or just server? If server, which one... AWS or IIS.

Do you recently update anything? Re-publish anything? Change anything?

There are so many specifics that might be a contributing cause.

Re: Console Error: ReferenceError: A5 is not defined at style.js

Hey David, thank you for your reply!

I am currently using Alpha Anywhere Developer Edition Version 12.4.4.3, Build 4254 (Yeah, I know it is outdated, if it were up to me we would update but my boss won't do it out of fear of breaking something and the hassle of updating everything).

I get the error when I look in the Chrome Dev Tools console when I am running the live application from the server, which is IIS.

Well, I update, change, and publish things all day long every single day. The error has been there for a while, impossible to pinpoint when it occurred and what I was doing at the time (especially since I am not the only one working on the application).

From the error it seems like the top of the style.js file is trying to reference an object named A5 but believes that A5 has not been defined. I looked through the JavaScript files that get packaged with Alpha and a5.js defines an object called A5, and that file is being loaded properly in the head of the page, so I don't see why it thinks it is undefined. I actually haven't found anything broken functionally or aesthetically as a result of the error, but regardless, the error is troubling as it means the entire style.js file is not being read, and I don't know everything that could affect going forward. Plus, console errors like that are going to make optimization take a hit.

Even weirder is if I then type A5 into the console it brings up the A5 object that the error message says is not defined, with the theme property. And the javascript that it is loading from is definitely above the style.js file that references it in the <head>

if you view the network tab in chrome dev tools are the js files loaded in the correct order and the timing correct?

You're going to have to get Alpha to look at this one. It's probably a setup error / bug under IIS.

Just started getting this error on our test server running Build 6699-5464. It ran for several months and stopped working. I try to load a simple page with no security. The project runs locally and on the production server with no issues.

I was able to resolve the issue but I am not certain of exactly what caused the issue. I do know that this was project specific. I published another project on the server and everything worked without an error.
I believe the issue was related to page security. I was having security errors when publishing a static html component with security enabled. I had to modify the pages.SecuritySettings manually to get it to work. I deleted the component and related static html files, then republished the entire project including the security tables.
I also know that the system could not reference the javascript files a5.js,A5jQueryWithUI.js and a5_url.js
See attached. I am just glad everything is working as expected.
