Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to Duplicate record ?( grid with UX for editing )

    Hi
    Using MariaDB. I have a read only grid, and a UX for editing records on that grid. The UX has many fields.
    I would like to add a Duplicate Record action button to the grid, which would open the UX in "adding" mode and fill-in the fields with data from the current record in the grid, besides the Date field which will have current date...
    I was sure i saw a thread about it in the forums, but can't find it...

    Thanks
    Jaime

    Hi Jamie,

    I haven't played with MariaDB yet although it seems to be based on MySQL which I do use.
    The first question is do you have a primary key for the record you want to duplicate?
    The second question is if you do, would you object to letting MariaDB duplicate the row
    and then simply load the new values into the UX for editing?

      Hi Gregg
      Well surely, the record has a primary key, but i'd like to avoid doing the duplicate through MariaDB, since then i'll have to delete the record if the user does not want to save it in the end...

        Hi Jamie,

        This does depend on how your UX is set up, but one possible way is to put a button on the UX which is called 'New Similar', this button simply sets your primary key field to blank with something like
        {dialog.object}.setValue('MY_PRIMARY_FIELD','');
        Then the user can edit any of the other fields as required then choose to save or not.

          I would use state variables to copy the values from the grid row, then put some in the oninitialze event of the UX to check if the state value exists, and if it does, set the controls to equal the state variables. A couple of the not so obvious advantages of this method include state variables are recognized by server-side and client-side handlers, and in the event the session ends, the state variables should still be available. You also have the option of using a secondary table in MariaDB for temporary storage of the record data.

            How about this function:

            {dialog.object}.newRecord({cloneExisting: true, fieldsToNotCopy: ['VERBRUIK_NUMMER','CONCERNS','DIEN_SRT_KODE','DIEN_SRT_OMSCHRIJVING','TAR_DIEN_KODE','TAR_DIEN_OMSCHRIJVING','VERBRUIK_BEDRAG','VERBRUIK_AANTAL','DIENITEM_KENMERK','VERBRUIK_TEKST','AANTALTEKENS','VERBRUIK_SOORT','FAKTRUNS_NUMMER','MUTATIEDOOR','DATUMTIJDMUTATIE']});

              Ger, good one! Didn't know Alpha had one built in.

              Here's one using MySql/MariaDb code:

              Code:
              CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE tmp SELECT * FROM Bill_Time WHERE time_id = {vTimeId};
              ALTER TABLE tmp drop time_id; # drop autoincrement field
              UPDATE tmp SET Billing_id=0,Invoice_no='',Posted=0,Start_Time='{vDT}',End_Time=null,
              Charge_Status = '{vChargeStatus}',
              Total_Time=0,Billable_Hours=0,Total_Fee=0,time_out=0,Description=null;
              INSERT INTO Bill_Time SELECT 0,tmp.* FROM tmp;
              DROP TABLE tmp;
