Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Apple Rejection For Camera Access

    I am getting an Apple Rejection for my app that saids:

    Please revise the relevant purpose string in your app

    Re: Apple Rejection For Camera Access

    Sorry, didnt complete the message.

    Here is what the Apple Rejection saids:

    Please revise the relevant purpose string in your app’s Info.plist file to specify why the app is requesting access to the user's camera and how your app will use the requested feature. You can modify your app's Info.plist file using the property list editor in Xcode.

    In my config.xml file I have this below. Do I need to add something to the config.xml?

    <!-- iOS -->
    <gap:config-file platform="ios" parent="NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription">
    <string>For uploading receipt images</string>
    </gap:config-file>

      Re: Apple Rejection For Camera Access

      Reading the rejection details it looks like Apple wants a purpose string for Camera Access... which you don't have in your config file. You have Photo Library Access... NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription... but not Camera Access...NSCameraUsageDescription.

      Apple knows which key is missing... I wish they'd just tell you in their error message.

        I just added this below and resubmitted, so I will see what they say:

        <gap:config-file platform="ios" parent="NSCameraUsageDescription">
        <string>The camera is used to capture pictures</string>
        </gap:config-file>

          Too funny... I'd reject that one. I'll be surprised if they accept it. Generally the usage description is a bit more specific.

              Re: Apple Rejection For Camera Access

              The reason your app wants access to the camera. The only real reason you've supplied it the one for receipts. The rest are very generic.

                Apple rejected it again. I dont think it is the config.xml file that is the problem. I have attached the screenshot of the error and what they want me to change. Where in Alpha do I change this?apple error.png

                  Re: Apple Rejection For Camera Access

                  The text that they circled... did you provide that text? If so... that is not a real reason for using the camera. If you didn't supply that text... keep reading...

                  I believe you're using the old format for setting usage descriptions strings for iOS.

                  Have a look here... https://documentation.alphasoftware....%20Plugins.xml

                  Change your entries... and include real reasons for usage details.

                    No I didn’t supply the text that they circled. How do I change that? The documentation seems to point to config.xml file but I already added that which didn’t change the circled text?

                      You added it using an old format. Use the format as outlined in the link.

                        I changed the camera part of the config.xml to this below. However, it did not change the text in the picture that Apple circled.

                        <config-file platform="ios" parent="NSCameraUsageDescription" mode="replace">
                        <string>This camera is used to take pet video identification and to take pictures of pets, pet medical records, and pet items</string>
                        </config-file>

                          Re: Apple Rejection For Camera Access

                          I won't be able to test this for a couple of days... but try this format...

                          Code:
                          		<edit-config target="NSCameraUsageDescription" file="*-Info.plist" mode="merge">
                          			<string>The camera is used for pet video identification</string>
                          		</edit-config>
                          I would also cut down your description string a bit. You've gone from terse to verbose. Short and to the point is what you want.

                              What I needed to change was further down in the config.xml file. Apple accepted it then.
