Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Outbound Data from App Server - Question

    Web app running on 6012.

I find myself second guessing my conclusions so I thought I'd ask you all.

I have this simple UX (see screenshots). Locally this runs fine. The function writes to debug.txt and I get a 'Success' alert.

When published to the production server, however, I don't get the 'Success' alert (the debug file is written). My thinking here is that I'm not getting a response back from the app server. Is that accurate?

On the production server I'm getting this in the console...

I don't know where that serverSideDateFormat code is coming from. That's not something I've added.

What I'm expecting is simply an alert that says 'Success'.

There isn't anything in the server logs to indicate a problem either.

Re: Outbound Data from App Server - Question

It obvious to me now that this isn't a server to client problem. The problem is in my screen shots above in post #2. But I don't know where that code is coming from. That's not mine. Again, there are no problems when running on the dev machine.

Both the dev machine and the production server are using the same build. I've republished all files. I'm at a loss.

Interesting. I'm not sure, but it seems that it doesn't know what to do with the returned javascript value and is just throwing up the date error because of that. Like it's trying to interpret the result but can't. If it works on dev but not production, is it possible there is some permissions issue preventing the returning code from being ran? What type of production server is it?

It's a Windows server. 2012 I believe. I don't believe it's a permission issue because I can navigate directly to the page by typing the URL.

This was just a test example. On the real component we're running an xbasic function after a button click that sends an email. After the email we are returning a runAction() method that just navigates to another A5w page. Again, that process works fine on the dev machine but on the production server we get this bizarre JS error.

Going to attack it again come Monday.

Re: Outbound Data from App Server - Question

Is there security active? Does the web app have full permissions on c:\debug? I've been bitten by security issues many times when trying to write outside of c:\a5webroot, but i get all kind of access errors, not the weird one you have. Still, doesn't hurt to check...

Thanks but I'm writing to c:\debug just fine. The problem is the I'm getting unexpected results when I emit to the browser (second screenshot in post one, line 5).
