Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Build 6012-5338 Strange behaviour

Anyone had any problems with the latest AA build ? I've had a couple of instances where a control in my mobile app has been mysteriously replaced by another control.

For example, I've got three list controls in a row. I did some editing to the third list control, and after I saved it, I found the first list control had been replaced by the third list control????

Similar things have happened a couple of times after I upgraded. I've rebuild all the controls a few times, but it still keeps happening. Be interested to find out if its some strange corruption in my app, or others are getting the same problem.

This is the new properties editor which is as buggy as hell and extremely dangerous as you have discovered. It cost me more than a few hours to fix messes in complex UX's that I had built. The work-around (and you have to remember to do this every single time). Whenever you edit a property of a control in a UX, click on another property in the same control before navigation to a different control. It's a disastrous bug with a mean bite and it's been there since they introduced their home made property control.

The properties editor has been terrible all year (or when ever Alpha switched from the third party editor software). I wish Alpha would just stop the new stuff and shore up the IDE. Having to navigate the idiosyncrasies of the IDE takes a lot of time and can be terribly frustrating.

I still get property settings migrating to controls where they shouldn't be. For example maybe I make a label font style bold. That bold setting will sometimes appear in other controls where I haven't set bold to.

It's an inconsistent problem so it's hard to reproduce. Because of that I haven't bothered to send in a bug report.

I'm downgrading back to 5667. It's the last release that seemed to work the best for me anyways.

On the one hand its good to know its not a problem with my app. On the other hand, its another work-around I need to remember. Luckily I had a backup that was only two days old, so I was able to recover the control in question, and with a few edits stored in the back of my brain, was able to get back to where I was.

This bug has been around for a long time. I've gotten in the habit of hitting the tab key any time I change a property. Maybe the least worrisome of the recent bugs, once you get in the habit of hitting the tab key.

Yeah, but it's like walking on eggshells. You shouldn't have to develop like this.

I have had similar issues but it's an impossible bug to duplicate to send in for review. Like you guys I tend to hit the tab key or at least click back into the same field I just edited prior to moving on to another control. I think it's somehow related to the refresh of the properties as it seems to creep in if I am moving quickly from one control type to another, like a container to a panel-card. I posted previously about how the panel card lost it's ID but I just happened to catch it so I was able to fix it. Overall though the latest build is pretty stable for me.

I just recently have moved a couple projects to 6012 from 5667. It's the first one that has seemed stable enough to move to. There still seems to be buggy issues, but I don't see them going away anytime soon.

                    Re: Build 6012-5338 Strange behaviour

We get the same issue, lists overwriting each other, argh and have gone back to 5887 for now, and 5447 on another server because some things dont work in 5887 at all.

Its super frustrating, at least I know I am not going mad, but its a shame it is still present in 6012, had hopes pinned to that release.

Looking like we will be more than a year behind the latest version before we upgrade next.

We have reported exact bug issues with this happening with replication steps, but have not heard a thing back. It also happens when you move controls on mass.
