    Default Where to save files?

Where should uploaded files be saved? Where is the safest place?

I have a small school app that will be uploading pictures, transcripts, etc to save on the server. A routine is added then save the file location in a table for later download.

Should the files files be saved in the a5webroot directory or in a different folder on the C drive or even another drive? How is security affected?

I know this question has been asked before, but I can't remember the proper answer and I can't find it when searching this forum.

Thanks for your input and advice.

The webroot is the web URL target folder, not a good idea, if file/directory browsing is ever turned on in the Server it's all viewable, should really be using S3 these days

You can always avoid directory browsing with index file.

The recommended method for doing file I/O in web apps is with storage connections. You can create a storage connection to point to S3, Azure, or a location on disk on the server running Alpha Anywhere. Storage connections work with Alpha Cloud, IIS, and the classic server.

If you try to access a certain page for example https://myserver.com/thispage.a5w you get a HTTP 404 if file does not exists and no directory browsing will happen.

On the other hand if use just https://myserver.com or with any subfolder like https://myserver.com/folder you get directory browsing (if allowed in server settings) unless server finds default page which is normally index.someting or default.something. So if you but a index file to root and to subfolders directory browsing will never happen. Server will serve just index page.

    Sarah,
Is there a mechanism for dealing with multi-tenant with storage connections?
