Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Return to calling page after Login

    Hi
    I have a simple project with :
    - 1 page (Mobile.a5w) holding a UX - for mobile use
    - 1 tabbedUI menu for managing the data used in mobile.a5w. The menu has some grids and ux, let's call it Tabbed.a5w
    - 1 login component encapsulated in login.a5w page.

What i try to achieve is the simplest most intuitive scenario: browsing to a page with security settings should bring the login dialog, then upon entering the data enter the page.
So, when browsing to mobile.a5w, after entering the login info, i would like it to go to mobile.a5w, and when going to tabbed.a5w, it should also pop up the login dialog then bring me to the tabbed menu.

I tried all kind of settings in the security configuration, it doesn't work as described above.

Could you guys tell me what to put where so this can be done?

    Thanks
    Jaime

Re: Return to calling page after Login

Ok i understand now that when setting to "Current Page" in the login redirect option, it stays in the Login page, which is useless. I thought that this would redirect to the calling page.

It should work if ONLY if a) you are using the normal Login component and b) you have component security turned off, c) you uncheck the box "Ignore return to page after login" in web security, Login Options.

It does not work if you are using the newer integrated login found in the UX component.

I have not found a way to fake it since you cannot get the request.referer from the initial page they hit in order to 'return' to it after login.

Also, note that if you have a special processing page after login, that if you do use this method, it will skip that processing page. Many developers have their target page after login a special page that is used to set variables, etc before going to the home page.

Here is what I have that works on alphatogo.com:

Thanks Steve. It's partly working but not satisfied with the results.
I will ditch the 'classic' login component and use integrated login in the tabbed.a5w as well as integrated login in mobile.a5w
Now to fiddle with the security configuration settings again...yuk

Re: Return to calling page after Login

Basic rule of thumb: In a mobile app always use the integrated (custom) ux login and modify as needed, and in a desktop app use the prebuilt login component. If you want to use the same for both, then you should use the custom integrated ux login capability.
