Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    System settings file

I can not remember the name of the file/files that contain the info in "View->Settings->System."
(For transferring the system settings from on version to another....anyone..?)
    Thanks

    Re: System settings file

I don't believe there is a file that contains this information.

You might want to take a look at this registry setting though:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alpha Software\Alpha Anywhere 12.0\preferences

      Re: System settings file

When I upgraded from V8 to V9 Cian gave me the file name(s) which worked. Perhaps there might not be such for V11 to V12.
      Thanks

Settings are stored in the registry in Alpha Anywhere.

          Re: System settings file

          Hi Sarah,
I don't believe your offering lends the assistance James is seeking.

I believe James is looking to migrate from a lower version of Alpha to a current version of Alpha and would like all the system customization he did in his lower version to be able to apply it to his newer version. For example, I have completely customized the colors and look of the display of the code in the code editor. I am now migrating from v11 to v12 and want to migrate the look of my code editor I had in my v11 so in my v12 it is as I worked so hard to get it to look in my v11. Where is that and how do I execute setting up my v12 with these system settings I had in my v11. Similar to migrating code library, maybe.

            Thanks Mike,
I guess i should have been more specific. They reply that Tim and Beta is gave is actually correct. The registry does contain the settings for the tree View-Settings-System.
What I wanted was said files that contained the settings for View-Settings-System-System Colors-Categories and View-Settings-System-System Colors-Categories.
Like you said to migrate the settings from V11 to V12 desktop.

The Registry object has several methods for setting/loading Registry settings. See https://documentation.alphasoftware....stry%20methods

              E.g.

              Code:
              dim prefs as P
              registry.load_settings("preferences",prefs)
              showvar(prefs)
