Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Powerful New Capabilities in Alpha Five v12

    Hello

Alpha have just announced a AA V12 upgrade.

Firstly, what is the situation with existing develpers who already have paid their current subscription.

Secondly what is the situation on Run Time Licenses for this new version.

Thanks you for your help. It is much appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Alex,

If you have a current subscription to AA then you can download and use the latest versions.
Where did you see news of this upgrade? Latest release I can see is from August 2019.

Re: Powerful New Capabilities in Alpha Five v12

      Hello Jon

It was an email message we got 31st October.

      AA12.jpg

      Reading about it at:https://www.alphasoftware.com/v12-desktop-new-features?utm_campaign=AlphaAnywhere&utm_source=hs_email&utm_medium=email&utm_content=78802198&_hsenc=p2ANqtz-_wkANcyRXcQFxsmAgrTKoI3dkdctp1EfYffPwFmOj1SwAvhGmEiGhUbBTEJYDGeelvEFYtUu9GTqzcd-pUvyzSBGBb2Q&_hsmi=78802198

it grabbed my attention for two reasons.

1: it is focused on building desktop apps
2: in my mind it underpins Alpha's commitment to the desktop

      Thanks for replying.

I agree, it's good to see Alpha improving the desktop. I just wish they made it easier to find such information on their website - I can't find a single link to anything desktop related.

          Hello Jon
I notice the above link doesn't work.
          Try
          https://www.alphasoftware.com/v12-de..._hsmi=78802198

When you go on to this page you get the Can I help you dialogue on the bottom right.
Twice I have asked the initial questions and twice the dialogue finished by saying someone would come back to me.

          I'm still waiting replies.

Personally from the amount of comments (mine included) about not hearing very much about their development for the desktop and some of the bullet points on the email, I would hav ethought they would have shouting from the highest roof tops but...

What has impressed me is that when you run V12 runtime solution/app using Remote Access (I mean here web enabled not RDS) the experience is as great as with native web application but you have desktop features available and maybe lot of less security problems. Sure there is a future for V12 Desktop.

              Hi Kenneth,
Can you please elaborate with much more detail what you are describing. The cryptic nature of your post doesn't deliver much depth to understand what you have experienced that leads to optimism. Thanks you.

Re: Powerful New Capabilities in Alpha Five v12

When the client access A12 runtime application using just web browser the user experience is just great and the Alpha desktop features are available for developer when application is developed.

And for user it is actually hard to understand that one is actually using a desktop application running in a web browser. So no need for RDS client just browser is enough.

What comes to A12 the options for developer are endless. Just the nodejs integration open doors almost anything. And the option to use for example Chrome control in xdialog opens doors to very exited solutions if you think you are actually developing a desktop solution which runs in browser.

One nice option is also if you have WAS installed in same server as your runtime application then you can run also WAS application in localhost and show the application in Xdialog which has chrome control configured. Then you can also use features in you desktop application that are maybe available just in Alpha web part and your WAS server is just available from localhost so no direct access from web (this I have not tested yet).

Kenneth, what's your favorite tool to permit "using just web browser" to connect to and run the runtime database?

                  Thanks

???????? What commitment? Hasn't it been many years since there was such a thing? And rightly so, I suppose. Gotta go where the market and money are. Or die.

TSPlus. If anyone will test then little info to save your time. Obviously if you use for testing external IP then it is better to use SSL. There is available ready to use self signed certificate for 100 years (cert.jks). So you do not need to create anyting just use that.
