Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    SignatureCapture type error

    Hi - any help on this much appreciated

    I've got a mobile app syncing to MS-SQL. The app has a signaturecapture UX. If I don't touch the signature but make the data dirty and then try to sync I get the following error

    implicit conversion from data type varchar to varbinary(max) is not allowed

    If I give it a signature, even if I then clear it, all is well and it syncs - any idea how to get round this???

    Re: SignatureCapture type error

    Could be a lot of things but I'd have a look at the NULL setting in the database or in the controls properties (last property available) checkbox NULL if blank - see if that fixes it.

      What build of Alpha are you using? Stuff like this may be good in one release, break in the next, and be fixed in the next. The build you're working with is important to know.

        Re: SignatureCapture type error

        Hi

        I'm 12.4.6.0.1 build 5887. TBH I was thinking to myself "I'm sure this used to work..." however updating is non-trivial - there's a lot of mobile devices to coordinate and update

        I tried the NULL setting in both the field mapping and the control but it made no difference (good idea though!). Its weird 'cause I'm getting reports it doesn't do this in the live environment but in my dev its black and white: save without touching the signature, sync **BOOM** type error.

        I've tried everything I can think of so if nobody's got a better idea I'll to update and cross my fingers

          Quick and sad update : updated to the latest 12.4.6.1.3 build 6232 and it still does it

          Anyone got any other ideas? I'm getting desperate here....

            Re: SignatureCapture type error

            You'd have to post a sample. There are 2 signature controls. It's impossible to know how you've set this up... and so impossible to even try and duplicate it.

            Build a simple example using a simple table. If it fails, then post the component along with a description of the table and fields. Then it can tested.

              I haven't messed with signatures too much, but I assume they are similar to images. We were having problems a while back when attempting to sync an image that is a detail view field of a list. We added the record to the list programmatically using addTableRow. I found that the only way I could get the image so sync is if I first initialized the field to an empty string when doing the addTableRow. Not sure if this is helpful to you or not but just thought I would throw it out there.

                Re: SignatureCapture type error

                I've fixed it myself after a fashion.. I put the following code into my "Save" button

                Code:
                {dialog.object}._functions._saveCanvas('CLIENTSIGNATURE');
                {dialog.object}._functions._clearCanvas('CLIENTSIGNATURE');
                The clear stops a previously entered signature being re-entered if its left blank on a subsequent form
                Note that the ID (i.e. name) of the control is case sensitive and must all in UPPERCASE (that took me a while suss!)
