Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Passing var from Chart to list component - Drill Down

Have created some charts for my boss, now need to drill-down to display a list of data from the chart. But the list is not showing. I have tried {dialog.object}.getvalue(), {dialog.object}.getsessionvariable(), {dialog.Object}.argumentValue(), still no list, maybe i miss something. I am using Ver 12.3, Build 2999. Attached are some images about the chart.

There's a lot of information missing here. As well, I would not dim args twice in XBasic... it is not needed.

The assumption is that your chart is using the UX controls LDate_Begin and LDate_End for a data filter in getLeadData (you should use Camel Case in your function naming). If this is the case, then you'd do the same for the List Control. Using the Arguments property in the List Control Data Source tab. Create 2 Arguments with a Data type of Date and Argument binding of Set value at Run-time. The Argument Value property will let you select your date Controls. Then use those List Arguments (actually, they are UX Arguments) in your List SQL Statement.

Build 2999 is 4.5 years old, so I no longer have that (no one should), but I believe the basics still work the same.

Hi David. thanks for your help, beside the 2 date arguments, I still need another variable that have to pass over from the Chart to the list. When the user click on the Bar, I need to pass over the (Panel.Label) to the List. (Refer to Pic01). I got a error when I try to use the variable in the sql statement. (Refer to Pic02).

I'm afraid you'll need to be a bit more specific. First... did the date arguments work? Second, when you try to use what variable... myvar? You can't use a variable like that in a sql statement in a List control. You must following the rules for supplying arguments... as in the dates.

Hi David, yes, the date arguments work perfectly. I need to further filter by another value after the date, I can find the value in the Point.Label. How to I turn the value in the Point.Label to be a argument?

Again, context is everything. Where is your Javascript running? There are a billion places to run Javascript in Alpha. You have to be specific about this stuff.

Is your code running in the onClick event of the Chart control? If so then the easiest way to get the point.label data into your List is to create a new TextBox Control e.g. txtPointLabel. Set the Client Side Show/hide expression for this new control to 1=2 so that it does not display.
Then use .setValue() to put the point.label value into that txtPointLabel.
Then create a new List Argument, pointing the argument to txtPointLabel.
Then use the new List Argument in your List SQL.

In your code you are creating a global variable vAboutUs. You are assigning point.label to that variable. Why the parenthesis? You don't need them.
Then you are creating a new local variable and assigning your global variable to it. Why create 2 variables to hold the same value?

All you need to do is:

            Code:
            {dialog.Object}.setValue('txtPointLabel',point.label);
            And then refresh your List.

Thanks David, the charts work perfectly. Just one last question, currently the (point.label) is showing "WALK IN (27)", how do i filter out the "(27)"? I just need the "WALK IN".

You're going to have to google a bit for that one. You'll be using Javascript methods... lots to choose from... several ways to accomplish what you need.
