Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Problem with V11 and hotmail.com

We've had a client complain that if they send an email to a hotmail.com address any reply sent by the addressee does not arrive. If the hotmail.com user starts a new conversation the message is successfully delivered.

We have tested this on V11 and V12 and the problem only occurs if the originating email is generated/sent from V11. Any reply is in the hotmail sent folder, but it is not delivered to any address on the list. Forwarding also appears to be broken.

It doesn't seem to matter what method we use to generate the email or what transmission method we use.

Not expecting a solution (though if you have one, I'd be eternally grateful), just wanted to warn others of the issue.

    Hi Jon,

I am sure this may sound like a crazy question, but what method do you use, and what email address do you expect the reply to go to ?

Re: Problem with V11 and hotmail.com

      Gregg,

We use both the reportmailer bolt-on and email_smtp_send. Reply address is the sender of the original email - doesn't matter what this is (gmail, yahoo etc.) the replies don't get through.

As I said above, not expecting a solkution, just wanted to let others know of the problem.

        Hi Jon,

I just tried with my system, and it worked great.
I am including my email function as well as pics of the emails from the test.
Just to be fair, I also tried this using a gmail account as the sender.
The message went to the spam folder, but the reply came directly to the Hotmail inbox.

          Gregg,

Problem is that replies FROM Hotmail don't arrive NOT replies to Hotmail.

It now appears that the problem is with the built-in Alpha functions email_send() and email_send2() and whatever Reportmailer uses (this is from 10.5 so may be even older code) as we have successfully tested emailing using the EMAIL_SMTP_OPEN(), _SEND() and _CLOSE() functions.

            Hi Jon,
I just used reply from Hotmail for both examples, and that came through.
The replies came through as expected, even directly to the inbox.

I see you're using the report mailer (I gave up on that a long time ago).
The function I provided allows attachments.
            I hope this helps.
